Tweedy book guy

Apparently it's Doctor Who Day! Happy days! New outfit, companion's name, companion's outfit, casting spoilers, &co.

I approve. A bit like Tennant, I suppose, but tweed = goodness (it's a Giles thing) and braces (which you can see in another pic) are awesome. And the whole thing looks kind of Bletchley Park. (Or science teacher. One or the other.)

Companion's name is...Amy Pond. Um. I think that would be silly even if James Pond didn't exist. See below for more, if you don't mind recurring character spoilers. Outfit looks fine, jumpers and Converse, quite modern.

Sooo the Sun spoiled me by updating their story while I was reading it...they realised some of the photos they had had a certain recurring character in them. STOP READING NOW IF YOU DON'T WANT TO KNOW.

Yep, River Song is back for la Moff's first eps. (Assuming they're filming in order, anyway.) Which made me sigh a bit, but I suppose it makes sense - more sense than dropping the whole storyline, anyway. So, River Song, Amy Pond...is there a reason for that frankly stupid surname of Amy's? Enquiring minds want to know. And River Song meeting 11, how's that going to work? Hmmm.

Also, and I have no idea which category to put this into, almost spoilerish speculation about the Tardis. We have a new Tardis! Except it's actually (so I'm told) an old Tardis - it's pretty much the spitting image of William Hartnell's police box. Again I say hmmm. Any chance Matt Smith isn't actually playing 11? Or something going screwy with the regeneration? Lots of questions coming out of today.

Articles and pictures, both with the minor spoilers, from the Daily Mail and the Sun.

(Apparently somebody did something impressive 40 years ago today, and also there's some sports thing on. Meh.)

I love what they did with his outfit. The last two Doctors have looked so trendy I was worried that they would do the same with him. This totally undercuts the youth of the actor and makes him seem very, very Doctor-ish.

I'm quite looking forward to this now.

Me too! Looks positively fusty, apart from the having the haircut of a rebellious public school 6th former.
All comes down to how he plays it, though: can he come across as ancient and eccentric enough?

He can definitely do eccentric, we'll see if he can manage ancient...

Yeah, I think that's why I like it, because it means they're not playing up the "young Doctor" thing.
