What is missing from this picture?

All right, WHY can't I see videos that people are posting any more, either here or in my RSS feeds? I can play them fine if I actually go to youtube, but not through google video, and I seem to be able to see some that aren't from youtube. It's very annoying. I know I'm not the only person it's happening to, but at the same time it doesn't seem to be that widespread. It may or may not be something to do with a Java update last week. Which I just realised hadn't actually installed itself, but I've installed it now, and still no luck. Thoughts?

I was so busy flailing about the F1 yesterday that I failed to mention that on Saturday I met strange_complex and did afternoon tea and museums, which was lovely. We went to the Charles Rennie Mackintosh Willow Tea Rooms, where I'd shamefully never been before, and geeked out about various things. A woman at the next table heard us discussing Being Human and the relative merits of pilot!Mitchell and series!Mitchell and joined in, which was suitably random in such a genteel place! Then we wandered down to the Gallery of Modern Art, where, shockingly, the Duke of Wellington did not have a traffic cone on his head. What IS the world coming to? But we saw interesting art, and mildly boggling art, and also plushie Sherlock Holmeses that I thought elaby would love, and Freudian slippers that made us giggle. Later on we met up with swisstone and did more Doctor Who geekery around the Tardis in Buchanan Street, and in the pub. Hurrah!

Today I have been mostly swearing at TV presenters who feel the need to ad lib every second line. You have an autocue for a reason, dammit. Grrr.

Aren't they awesome?! I just found out you can get loads of them - I think I want an Oscar Wilde one. And Dali in his cloak.

TV presenters
I was quite miffed at the TV presenter who introduced Anna Karenina last night as Anna Kareenina. It seems to happen quite a lot!

Re: TV presenters
I had one today who pronounced Federico (Garcia Lorca) as Fredericio, which I didn't think was quite right, either. Useless, the lot of them!

Where are the feeds, here?

There's a known longstanding LJ bug with videos on friends pages, try opening the post in a separate tag then hitting ctrl+f5. Beyond that, I've not had a problem, give me a link and I'll see if I can replicate it?

Yeah, I've had intermittent faults before, which is why it took me a couple of days to worry about this one. But, eg, I can't see this video on andrewducker's post. But if I knew what it was, I could go directly to YouTube and watch it, and it'd be fine. Videos from Vimeo are coming through OK, but Videogum ones aren't.

I'm using the Brief add-on for Firefox to read feeds, and it's always brought video through fine, but hasn't been the last couple of days. Latest example, I can't see the (I assume) videos in this HuffPost article, either in my reader or if I open the actual article. (I'm now wondering whether it's something to do with AdBlock, but since I don't understand it, I don't want to fiddle too much...)

There are vids on both, yes, the HuffPo one is:
http://www.youtube.com/v/f8SUZyhv4Pc&hl=en&fs=1 and Andrew's is:

Try temporarily disabling Adblock, or try adding Flashblock—the latter has a nice little function where you can right click on an area of flash and copy the location of the video to clipboard.

Both are displaying fine for me, but I don't use adblock.

I was rather disappointed when I visited the Gallery of Modern Art this year. When I went a few years ago, it had loads of fab things inside. this time I hardly recognised the place, and many of the things I remembered weren't there. There were some nice pieces, by a lot seemed to be of the work kind of 'modern art'; the random splodges that you feel you could do just as well yourself. Still the cafe is good.

I've been to the Willow Tea rooms on Sauchiehall Street, where I acquired a German penpal over lunch. It's certainly worth visiting at least once, but can be rather too busy with other tourists. Might be better in the low season.

Doesn't the Dr Who exhibition open at the Kelvingrove shortly ? I was rather miffed at seeing the posters for it and knowing I was in town a few weeks too early for it.

It doesn't seem to have had any really good exhibitions for a while. There were a few good things in it at the weekend - I always like the Op Art ones, and there was some interesting stuff upstairs, though we didn't go to the top gallery.

The Willow Tea Rooms weren't particularly busy when we were there, I guess because we went between lunchtime and afternoon tea time, on a wet afternoon! Nice, though.

The Who exhibition opened...last week or the week before, I think. It sold out the first weekend, anyway. I'm waiting a while, because I saw it in Earl's Court so I'm waiting for the props they're promising from S4 & S5 to turn up!

Hee, it was great to meet you! I got home late last night and am only just catching up with LJ, but will have tea room and TARDIS pictures to post later on. Many thanks for helping to make my stay in your fair city so enjoyable. :-)
