The minor fall and the major lift

I'm off work due to major insomnia - trying to work a 10-hour shift on one hour's sleep seemed a little overenthusiastic. Though it did mean I missed fortuneandglory's coffee-n-cake leaving do, sadly.

Anyway, I've been in a terrible mood all day week, so I figured it was a good time to start that happies meme.

Happies today:

1. My flat is tidier than it's been in, ooh, a year. (Not TIDY yet, but I'm getting there.)

2. My starry Christmas lights are up. Pretty.

3. I have remembered the existence of this icon, which is made of win.

4. Jeff Buckley's Hallelujah is sitting at number 3 in the midweek charts. Wouldn't take too much of a push for it to get to number 1 ahead of X-Factor person's attempt at it... Buy it at 7Digital now! You can use paypal and everything. Only 89p to really, really annoy Simon Cowell - you know it's worth it. (I would've got behind Leonard Cohen version, but it's only at number 37.)

5. While downloading that I also acquired a Christmas song called To All A Good Night - by Arab Strap. I expect it to be suitably lacking in goodwill to all men.

Tha charts have always been meaningless. And I never understood why anyone except the artist and the record company would give a toss as to how many units had been shifted. I mean, what? Does your favourite artist get promotion into the Premier League if they get enough points?

Heh, I can think of all sorts of reasons, none of which quite convince even me. But if it's meaningful to other people, then influencing it is meaningful? Maybe?

Also, I'll have to hear/ subtitle whichever one gets to number 1, I'm sure, so this is a personal crusade for my sanity ;)
