The minor fall and the major lift

I'm off work due to major insomnia - trying to work a 10-hour shift on one hour's sleep seemed a little overenthusiastic. Though it did mean I missed fortuneandglory's coffee-n-cake leaving do, sadly.

Anyway, I've been in a terrible mood all day week, so I figured it was a good time to start that happies meme.

Happies today:

1. My flat is tidier than it's been in, ooh, a year. (Not TIDY yet, but I'm getting there.)

2. My starry Christmas lights are up. Pretty.

3. I have remembered the existence of this icon, which is made of win.

4. Jeff Buckley's Hallelujah is sitting at number 3 in the midweek charts. Wouldn't take too much of a push for it to get to number 1 ahead of X-Factor person's attempt at it... Buy it at 7Digital now! You can use paypal and everything. Only 89p to really, really annoy Simon Cowell - you know it's worth it. (I would've got behind Leonard Cohen version, but it's only at number 37.)

5. While downloading that I also acquired a Christmas song called To All A Good Night - by Arab Strap. I expect it to be suitably lacking in goodwill to all men.

4. It might go to number 2. But X Factor is selling more than the rest of the chart put together and has broken all digital download records, so somewhat futile.

Meh, probably. I despair of...people. X Factor has made the Christmas number one completely meaningless. (Mind you, the charts are fairly meaningless anyway these days!)

I know, I mean I actively take an interest in music, obviously, and it's rare for me to know who's number one even, unless they've been up there for WEEKS.

I know - I discovered recently that there had been (at least one) number one that I hadn't even heard OF, much less heard.

Oh no, sorry to have missed you! I'll be back as soon as they'll have me back for a casual shift though. I'm really starting to think I've made a mistake here...have had such a lovely day and all. But I'll see you next year and hopefully watch some Grand Prixs with you?

Yeah, I figured I'd see you in the office again soon - can't believe they've turned you down for overtime though! I suppose having enough staff in would make it far too relaxing next week, or something.

I'd love to meet up for some Grand Prixs - hopefully next year I'll be working less of the Sundays they fall on!

Yeah! God, that's one thing I'm looking forward to, having every Grand Prix weekend off as a matter of course. Can't believe the Bourdais/Sato thing is STILL being spun out, wish they'd just decide one way or the other... :(

I've been telling everyone that if they get called in on an O Day next week, they should tell them to call me instead ;) Maybe it's cos paying me overtime is more expensive than waiting till I'm a casual member of staff and paying me less. Or maybe they're just determined to give me a proper Christmas break. Ha!

I've bought it, and I've spread the meme; but it's currently spreading so fast on Facebook that FB crashes when you try to tell your friends about it.

We're only halfway through the week; it's not by any means impossible and I think we should have a go. 89p! And even if it doesn't work, we (a) get loads of airplay for Jeff Buckley, and (b) have a fabulous single (that honestly I should have bought years ago).

Tha charts have always been meaningless. And I never understood why anyone except the artist and the record company would give a toss as to how many units had been shifted. I mean, what? Does your favourite artist get promotion into the Premier League if they get enough points?

Heh, I can think of all sorts of reasons, none of which quite convince even me. But if it's meaningful to other people, then influencing it is meaningful? Maybe?

Also, I'll have to hear/ subtitle whichever one gets to number 1, I'm sure, so this is a personal crusade for my sanity ;)

I wasn't going to buy Buckleys version but now I have. Is your post subliminal or something? Or am I just highly suceptable?

It's too easy to buy things on the internet. Three clicks and you're done!

I love Christmas lights. You should post a photo of them!

Ooh, I might, actually!
