Politicicking

(Bugger, I just put this into an "edit post" window that the drop-down menu brought up, and I don't know which post I've edited or how to get it back. Urrgh. Anyway.)

Labour win Glenrothes by-election.

This is really weird. Not just that people are voting for Labour... Every pundit going, every poll, every exit ballot had the SNP winning by about 1,500. Even Labour MPs were convinced they'd lose. So what the hell happened? Are people really that easily swayed by Gordon Brown turning up on their doorstep?

The PM (and his wife) don't historically do doorstepping for by-elections. They did this time, and won. Does that mean Brown's going to be expected to go traipsing round every by-election seat, or people will complain their seat isn't as important to him as the one next-door to his? Heh.

In other news, Jacqui Smith has gone mad again. People can't wait for ID cards, apparently. "The cards will be available for all from 2012 but she said: "I regularly have people coming up to me and saying they don't want to wait that long." "

You should probably talk to someone about the little people in your head, Jacqui. Especially if they're mad enough to want ID cards.

I never thought that I would be happier as an American than living under a three term Labour government. Funny old world, eh?
