Brain power

Apart from in the shower, the time I most often have interesting thoughts worth taking further is in bed, about to go to sleep. And I'm really bad at remembering them, and not motivated enough to use a notepad or the voice recorder on my phone - way too much effort, when you're nearly asleep. Last night there was something I wanted to remember, so I tried attaching the central phrase to the idea of brushing my teeth, so that that would trigger the memory.

While brushing my teeth this morning, sure enough, it worked! I suddenly remembered repeating a phrase over and over in my head, picturing the toothpaste and imagining the feel of the toothbrush.

Can I remember what the phrase, or the interesting thought, actually was? Hell no. Just that there was something I wanted to remember. This has always seemed to be the problem with the tying-the-knot-in-the-hankie method of remembering things, too. "There's something vitally important you've forgotten!" "Oh, good - what?" "Er, dunno..."

The toothbrush way seems to have some merit, but needs refined, clearly. Now I'm going to sit about all day wondering what it is I've forgotten.

Haha! I do this all the time! I have to face the fact that my memory is a sieve and all the fine ideas just slip right through!
