Music meme

Memery, from everyone.

- Put your music player on random.
- Post the first line from the first 32 50 songs that play, no matter how embarrassing the song.
- Let everyone guess what song and artist the lines come from.
- Bold the songs when someone guesses correctly.
- Looking them up on Google or any other search engine is CHEATING!

Man, I'm trying to do this lyrics quiz, but skipping the songs I possess but don't know at all. Which is most of them - I seem to have a vast quantity of music I've never listened to. (As well as books I've never read and DVDs I've never watched. But at least they look familiar, usually.) And the first three songs I've got to that I know have all had their titles in the first line.

1. That's great, it starts with an earthquake
2. It's the wrong time and the wrong place
3. I don't need to fall at your feet
4. As I sit in this smoky room
5. I was feeling done in, couldn't win
6. We took a walk that night but it wasn't the same
7. Oh is this the way they say the future's meant to feel?
8. I touch the fire and it freezes me
9. Ground Control to Major Tom (easiest one ever?)

10. Beauty queen of only 18
11. You give me that funny feeling in my tummy
12. Gotta get out of these smoky clothes
13. I fancy I'll open a stationers
14. I fall for this season every time
15. The night we met I knew I needed you so

16. Mama thinks I'm living in a convent
17. I was born on the other side of a town ripped in two
18. I love you from the bottom of my pencil case
19. A long long time ago, in a galaxy far away
20. Aiaiaiai, feels like fire
21. Hey boy take a look at me, let me dirty up your mind
22. Ticking away the moments that make up a dull day
23. Her face is a map of the world

24. Roll me on your frozen fields
25. So if you're lonely, you know I'm here waiting for you
26. Long ago, and oh so far away
27. She keeps her Moet & Chandon in a pretty cabinet

28. Is Davina's mum in the room or in her head?
29. The hour's approaching to give it your best
30. Do you have the time to listen to me whine?
31. Well tell me where it all went wrong
32. The sun got stuck as it's making its way back down
33. I think it's getting to the point where I can be myself again
34. Hey ho, let's go
35. Look at the stars

36. I was surprised, I was happy for a day in 1975
37. One - she prefers the night to day
38. Pretty woman out walking with gorillas down my street
39. Call you up in the middle of the night
40. I am an anti-christ

41. I know you've tried
42. Spacey Sunday, friend of mine
43. My tea's gone cold I'm wondering why
44. I wear the same shoes as everyone
45. Well no-one told me about her, the way she lied
46. There you see her, sitting there across the way

47. Yes I've run a mile in my head
48. Oh, breaking up is so very hard to do
49. Let me take you down cos I'm going to
50. I can hear the soft breathing of the girl that I love

That was fun. I'm not sure if I can remember what they all are now, though. Also I need to sort out my audio tracks, so that when I shuffle My Library, I don't get a chapter of a Harry Potter audiobook every three tracks, and a Doctor Who audio only slightly less frequently.

Re: Fun! I've got the easy ones.
Yep! Hey Ho Let's Go is called Blitzkrieg Bop on the album I have, which is why I let it pass.

And it was a version of Be My Baby by Glasvegas, which is awesome.

Re: Fun! I've got the easy ones.
You are so right! I was thinking of the greatest hits I have, which is called "Hey ho, Lets go!" I'll have to find that version of Be My Baby...
Sep. 29th, 2008 12:43 am (UTC)
38: Joe Jackson "Is she really going out with him"

19: Weird Al "Saga Begins"

22: Pink Floyd "Time"

30: OMG I should know this one!

There's a few more that are nagging at me... meh.
Sep. 29th, 2008 04:09 pm (UTC)
Yep, yep, yep, and I don't know if I'd have got 30 either, though it would have rung a bell!
Sep. 29th, 2008 12:44 am (UTC)
Here are the ones I can get, though I didn't check which ones are already got. Sorry for the repetition, but I'm on a roll.

1 - End of the world as we know it, REM
7 - Sorted for Es and Whizz, Pulp
8 - Buffy the Musical, don't know the title
9 - Space oddity, Bowie, easy peasy ;-P
14 - Pop singers fear of the pollen count, Divine Comedy
18 - Song for whoever, the Beautiful south
22 - Time, Pink Floyd
26 - Superstar, The Carpenters (I have the Sonic Youth version which I am now playing)
27 - Killer Queen, Queen
40 - Anarchy in the UK, Sex Pistols

49 - Strwaberry Fields, some popular beat combo.
Sep. 29th, 2008 04:10 pm (UTC)
All right! And the Sonic Youth version of Superstar sounds intriguing, I will search it out.
Sep. 29th, 2008 04:12 pm (UTC)
It is on the outrageously good album "If I were a Carpenter." All highly recommended, especially Shonen Knife's version of "Top of the World."
Sep. 29th, 2008 04:33 pm (UTC)
Ah, I remember that coming out, yes! I'll look out for it.
Sep. 29th, 2008 01:56 am (UTC)
5) Touch-a-Touch-a-Touch-a-Touch Me - Rocky Horror Picture Show soundtrack. (Which version have you got?)
30) Basket Case - Green Day
39) Runaway Train - Soundgarden
43) Could be 'Thank You' by Dido
45) She's Not There - Zombies? UK Subs?
46) Kiss The Girl - Little Mermaid OST

(Edit: Dude, I'm gonna have to do this one again...)

Yes to all except Dido - it was Stan, by Eminem, which samples the track. And I've got the Soul Asylum version of Runaway Train.

Rocky Horror - I've got the film soundtrack and the original cast soundtrack, I think, and the punk versions. Hee. I was listening to the punk Rose Tint My World last night.

And YAY, someone got the Little Mermaid one! I wasn't sure whether to put it in :D
Sep. 29th, 2008 05:13 pm (UTC)
Runaway Train - that is what I meant. *headdesk* Gah.
'tea's gone cold' - *nod* That possibility had already been brought up, so I thought I'd provide the alternative just in case.
Rocky Horror - so many versions! Wow.
Little Mermaid - *giggle* That has a certain cool factor all its own, the fact that you've got that laying around.

As to the rest, I'd have got a lot more but others beat me to it. Woe.
Sep. 29th, 2008 02:02 am (UTC)

13. is 24 Hour Garage People by the very great Half Man, Half Biscuit

Sep. 29th, 2008 01:10 pm (UTC)
"Is she really going out with him (I believe this is officially the best first line ever)"

It's a great line, but it's got a strong rival from The Teardrop Explodes: 'Bless my cotton socks, I'm in the news.'
Sep. 29th, 2008 04:16 pm (UTC)
Yep! I never knew that was what the first line of Is She Really Going Out With Him said until I looked it up for this, I always sang "Pretty woman out walking down the middle of my street". The real words are much better, yeah!
Sep. 29th, 2008 10:50 am (UTC)

Sep. 29th, 2008 04:27 pm (UTC)
Yay! I was expecting someone to get The Power Of Love earlier. All correct, 23 is KT Tunstall and 45 is The Zombies :)
Sep. 29th, 2008 04:02 pm (UTC)
It's kinda depressing that I only know "the easiest one ever" #9 and #40 which is surely close being the seconded easiest one ever.
Sep. 29th, 2008 04:33 pm (UTC)
Hee. And yeah, it probably is...
