I have the new Diana Wynne Jones book! And it's a sort-of sequel to Howl's Moving Castle! *does the dance of squee* I re-read Howl again last night in preparation. I also have the new Felix Castor book. And the new Danny Wallace book.

Met my ex-flatmates for dinner tonight, which somehow turned into drinking pitchers of cocktails till closing time. Mmm.

I was looking at a collection of Faraway Tree books in Borders, and the blurb was:

When Joe, Beth and Frannie move to a new home, an Enchanted Wood is on their doorstep. And when they discover the Faraway Tree, that is the beginning of many magical adventures! Join them and their friends Moonface, Saucepan Man and Silky the fairy as they discover which new land is at the top of the Faraway Tree.

WUT? "Joe, Beth and Frannie"? Bring back my Jo, Bessie and Fanny. Apparently it's been abridged, too. I can't think what was remotely offensive - will have to dig out my old paperbacks at my parents' house and re-read them!

Marianne much prefered the original Faraway tree books that she read at my mother's house, to the modern ones she has here.

I'm morbidly tempted to get the new ones to compare... There's probably a website somewhere that does it for me.

So jealous you have the new Wynne Jones book. I didn't even know there was going to be a(nother) sequel to Howl. *Off to Amazon.com to order*.

I had the Mojo digital radio station on yesterday while I was Doing Stuff in the living room. They were playing 'Money' from Dark Side of the Moon, which was good, when it skipped briefly. I assumed briefly this was a fault in the transmission, which happens sometimes. Then it continued just fine, and I realized that all that had been missed was the word 'bullshit'.

Not only was this Mojo radio, it was well into the evening. I couldn't believe they'd edited it out.

Oh, I hate it when they do that. It's digital radio so I doubt it has a watershed, as such. And I dread to think what age kids these days know "bullshit"!

Butbutbut... Jo, Bessie and Fanny! Who're Joe, Beth and Fannie when they're at home? Dick's also been turned into Rick, apparently!

Buy them second hand!

I thought there was a Dick as well, heh. Gah.

I've got at least the first one at my parents' house. Must find out if I have the others.

FRANNIE!? What happened to Fanny? I can guess what happened to her, but really, can't we even have a laugh at/enjoy Enid Blyton any more? Oh well, at least her books are still available and not quite banned from sale yet. No one has ever thought to do this to The Body Book by Claire Rayner, I'm sure, even though that book merits no better treatment. Then again, there's no one called Fanny in it, just some pictures of a fanny. :D

I KNOW! I can't even remember if I noticed the Fanny and Dick thing. I might have been quite a naive child. Or I might just have been reading Blyton when I was five or six...

We should replace all the pictures of fannies with pictures of frannies :D
