Tick tick tick tick boom

I keep missing birthdays - belated happy birthday to dibsy, nwhyte, rwrylsin and burkesworks!

We had a proper thunderstorm yesterday, long and very loud - it was great! The only disappointing this was that it wasn't dark - I love storms in the dark. It was the biggest thunderstorm I can remember in Glasgow for a few years, though. There are some good photos on flickr, and some videos.

I'm heading down to London tomorrow until Tuesday - I've just realised I'll be there for the mayoral election; how exciting! I haven't really got plans yet for Friday or Monday (except finding that shop with loads of gaming miniatures again, to buy a figure for my Dark Heresy assassin) - is there anything I shouldn't be missing in London right now? Otherwise it's probably the British Library or the Tate Modern, or just wandering about. I'm going to see James Marsters on Friday night, Derren Brown on Saturday night and then the Doctor Who exhibition at Earl's Court on Sunday, though, YAY.

purplesnap informs me that one of my posts was a googlewhack for "quiettwitter spambot", but it doesn't seem to be working any more, for some reason - I'm getting no hits at all. Boo. (I'm not putting the quotes in, of course.)

There is the new butterfly house thing at the natural history museum. Might be worth a visit - I keep planning to go see it and keep forgetting to.

Ooh, I've never been to the natural history museum. That's a definite possibility.

I can definitely recommend it. If it wasn't the wrong side of London from me, I'd probably go more regularly.

Thank you, thank you.

When I'm in London there are two fantastic, and relatively inexpensive restaurants that I have to visit. Firstly there is Tas Pide, an Anatolian (think Greek, Turkish kind of stuff) restaurant just round the corner from the Tate Modern. It's on New GlobeWalk, just opposite the New Globe itself. It's a two minute walk, just turn right out of the front of the Tate Modern. There is a pizza express on the corner, go up that street, it's on the left. I really, seriously recommend this place. They do a nice middle eastern version of pizza called a Pide, but as good as it is, I'd recommend trying the lamb or the fish. Or else, really. Especially the sardines in vine leaves, if you like that kind of thing, which I do.

The second is Busaba Eathai, which has a couple of googleable locations, (Wardour street in soho is the other) but we always go to the one on Store Street, just off of the Tottenham Court Road. It's a few minutes from the back entrance of the British Museum. There are no reservations, but you don't usually have to wait, they don't do starters or desserts, and you get seated semi-communally at large tables. Do not let this put you off. Literally everything that they do is delicious. They have the best clamari that you will ever eat. This is not an exaggeration. _generica_ will back me up on this. She hates calamari, but still couldn't stop eating the stuff. Also try the Jasmine smoothie.

I didn't get a googlewhack from that either. That said, it's not technically a googlewhack because the words need to be in the dictionary. Sorry.

Oh, they both sound great, though I'm not usually keen on calamari myself :S And bugger, I'd forgotten that about googlewhacks. So double fail there.

I'm not sure that either of those really count as a fail. But if you do go to Busaba, and if you do happen to go with someone who likes squid, get them to order it, and then you can try a piece. And then eat many, many more.
