You won't let those robots destroy me...

I have tons of new userpics, and have no idea which to use first. This one is great - it's from tmg_icons, and they have a load of beautiful subtly animated ones. From Murakami films and Disney films, yay. And I got a bundle from nomorewolfie, who seem to have exactly the same fandoms as me, and more of redscharlach's Torchwood minifig icons. I have a PC Andy, yay!

LJ have been updating their policies - the new draft proposals are here, and they've posted a Beginning The Conversation post on lj_policy. It's encouraging that they're consulting, and the new proposals are a lot better than the previous ones. There are several questions left by the proposals, but some of them have been cleared up in the comments. Hotlinking images is disallowed, but action is only taken if the site owner complains, so embedding and memes will still be fine, as will linking from places like the BBC, one assumes. Encouraging or inciting criminal behaviour is disallowed, but talking about criminal behaviour is a grey area to a certain extent, as is civil disobedience - this is on purpose, because the only way to draw a line is to ban it completely. If it's left to the individuals on the abuse team, they probably won't ban you for, just for example, encouraging people not to get ID cards. There's still a bit of confusion about sexually explicit pictures of people who might look under 18, especially manga, and about fanfic featuring under-18s, though I have a feeling that it might have been left a grey area on purpose as well.

A couple of things still need proper definitions, like "any threat to the President" being banned - miss_s_b asked if this included things like threatening to feed him broccoli, and to my knowledge there hasn't been an official answer yet, but it's probably just death threats and so on. And hate speech and threats to people or groups of people are banned, but only if you have the means and opportunity to actually carry out your fiendish plan. (It does occur to me to wonder whether you could get around the whole thing anyway by saying "If it weren't for LJ's T&Cs, I'd encourage you all to go out and carve a TV interior designer's eyes out with a spork", but I'm not sure - I've heard the "allegedly" principle on Have I Got News For You doesn't always work.)

All you photographers out there watch out - the Met is after you. They've been running a new advert [pdf link] which reads
"Thousands of people take photos every day. What if one of them seems odd? ..Terrorists use surveillance to help plan attacks, taking photos and making notes about security measures like the location of CCTV cameras. If you see someone doing that, we need to know. Let experienced officers decide what decisions to take."

There are similar posters about telling the Met about people you know with multiple mobile phones, and about houses with suspicious activity. At first I just thought this was ridiculous, but I'm increasingly outraged about it - people are being actively encouraged to suspect and report everyone else (how 1984), and people being as they are, there will be a hugely disproportionate number of non-whites reported, and a large number of reports made purely out of spite. And while the Met probably won't do anything about those, they will remain on file, forever.

The BBC might not sell off TV Centre after all - yay! I like TVC. I saw Dale Winton in the car park there once - oh, the glamour.

Torchwood macros with Once More With Feeling lyrics. Spoilers up to about 2.07, I think.

Tony Head singing Sweet Transvestite. I've seen it before, but it's always worth linking to.

And did I post a link to any of the Animusic videos? I definitely meant to. Here's Pipe Dreams. I don't know how to describe these - just watch how the music and animation work together.

So, why are you posting at 4:30 am? (And not even just a one liner saying, "Dammit! I can't sleep.")

Heh - it's actually quarter to six now! I'm on late shifts next week (4 till midnight) so I've gone nocturnal in preparation. I usually sleep from about 8am till 3pm when I'm on night shift weeks. It's probably not good for me...

I guess I did something similar when I was on nights in the ER during residency; although, I don't remember having time to prepare. Nights were cool, though. There's something surreal about eating lunch at midnight.

I quite like late shifts too, yeah. Though not all the time...

"Big brother is watching you"

Frightening isn't it? This Government is out of control! Waiting for the first Extermination Camp to be built.

Re: "Big brother is watching you"
It is scary, yeah. I wonder how odd I'd have to look to get reported to the Met...

MADE OF WIN. I love those.

That Met campaign is really worrying. There's not much you can do anymore that hasn't been criminalised.

The BBC shouldn't sell it off. It's a national icon ffs.

It is :s I know a few people who take pictures of walls and pipes, too! And also who have multiple mobile phones.

Being a student, I have photos of my friends pretending to be gargoyles. And I have multiple sim cards. Does that count?

Thanks for all the info! And thanks for the notes on the new LJ policy stuff.

No worries :D I read 11 pages of comments, so I figured I might as well write down what I remembered...
