Exorcist In Chief

Hurray, it's 2008! So far, it's looking...pretty much like 2007. Which was fairly good for me, so I don't mind - I just hope it improves for all of you whose 2007s sucked mightily.

miss_s_b has helpfully invented a meme that works as a links post - clever!

For anyone using a tabbed browser - what's in your tabs RIGHT NOW?

I'm going to put them under a cut because, um, there's one or two...

1. LJ Update, where I'm writing this. (My browser opens on LJ, Facebook and Google Mail, and I'm going to add netvibes to that.)
2. Facebook home page.
3. Google Mail inbox.
4. Telegraph article on the latest absurdity of the Catholic church.
The Roman Catholic Church has vowed to "fight the Devil head-on" by training hundreds of priests as exorcists.

Father Gabriele Amorth, 82, the Vatican's Exorcist in Chief, announced the initiative amid the Church's concerns about growing worldwide interest in Satanism and the occult.

According to plans being considered, each bishop would have a group of priests in his diocese who were specially trained in exorcism and on hand to take action against "extreme Godlessness".

"Now bishops are to be obliged to have a number of established exorcists for their diocese. Too many bishops are not taking this seriously and are not delegating their priests in the fight against the Devil. You have to hunt high and low for a proper, trained exorcist."

5. Digital Spy General Discussion board, where I am currently arguing about faith schools, swearing, and who the most famous person in the world is.
6. Spread The Word: Books To Talk About, ganked from coalescent - a list of 100 "hidden gems" of the book world. (Not the Bookworld.)
7. Netvibes. Seriously, BEST THING EVERS. All very Web 2.0, and lets you have everything in one place. On my netvibes homepage, as well as the normal stuff like to do lists and BBC news headlines, I've got my facebook, all three of my main email accounts, my del.icio.us bookmarks, my twitter, loads of feeds including slashdot and Wired... Ooh, just everything.
8. The GOP Primary field in Buffy villains. The GOP Primary field is all the people running for Republican presidential candidate, I think, and this post is matching them up with Buffy villains.
9. This picture of Holy Mole peanuts, which anonymous_greg posted and I wanted to link to for megamole.
10. New Statesman article about how the media pounce on "themed" stories, so suddenly there's dangerous dogs - or Muslims - all over the place. I was linking to it from Digital Spy.
11. What The Church Doesn't Want You To Know About Its Successful Schools, from the National Secular Society. (Basically, that they're no better than state schools.) Someone linked to it from DS.
12. fandom_addme, to find new friends. I don't love you any more. *waves to people from fandom_addme*
13. Some loon on Comment Is Free whining about other atheists making his kind of atheist look bad.
14. The final Deathly Hallows chapter examination from mike_smith. If you've read the book and you haven't been reading these, you should really go and read all of them now, because they're both ranty and hilarious. (Warning: he is NOT a fan.)
15. Search for Sweeney Todd on mininova. It was the soundtrack I was after, so I know it by the time the film comes out here.
16. Switchknife's Slash Recs, because I am still reading Potterslash, to my shame. Or to my shame that I don't feel ashamed, anyway.

That's all! And when I say all, I mean far too many, clearly.

This LoudTwitter thing's going to do wonders for my posting rate, but it seems like a bit of a cheat. Maybe I'll turn it off again.

heh! You're as bad as I am...I currently have 7 Firefox windows open, each with an average of 5-6 tabs open. I also have a window of Explorer open because I was testing a link before sending it to my sister.

My tabs range in topic from web mail to my photography message boards to house hunting links to an ebay window looking for Monchichi toys. It's been an eclectic day!

Ooh, wow. Excellent. I've actually cut down on the number of tabs I have because so much stuff is on netvibes now - before that, I'd have had several extra ones!

Heh, Hitchens can be a bit shrill and insulting, but really, if the others were talking about anything except religion they wouldn't be accused of being obsessed or militant or screechy. You're just not allowed to be as honest about what you think of religion as you are about what you think of society in general, or politics, or anything else.

You should totally try netvibes, and get y!mail, gmail, bloglines, twitter and facebook all in the same tab :) Although I still have them all in their own tabs too...ah well.

I had netvibes for a while, as well as google reader, but I keep coming back to bloglines. I'd end up with them all open in their own tabs anyway...
Jan. 3rd, 2008 02:37 pm (UTC)
Yeah, I have noticed that I still seem to end up with a lot of tabs, especially if I want to link to stuff...

Oh dear. I don't think I'll do this one - I have 2 FF windows with 122 tabs open between them (and that's just the work PC !). At home I have ... 5 windows, and I don't want to know how many tabs (although one window and a bunch of tabs are me working my way through webcomic archives, so they don't really count, right ?).
Jan. 3rd, 2008 02:07 pm (UTC)
Ahahahaha. Excellent. That's a LOT of tabs...

Exorcism thing: bloody crazy. Article you linked to re "new atheism" - I am not impressed. Comments are good though.

Please ignore my surely incorrect punctuation from my first comment. Brain will not engage today (and possibly not any time soon).
