I Aten't Dead

Arse. I was all cheerful because I'd managed to put up my really quite excessively complicated Christmas tree, and came on to post a photo, and found bad news about Terry Pratchett all over my flist. Early onset Alzheimer's. Ugh.

Have a photo of my Christmas tree anyway.

Except I leant on the shelf while I was putting the Christmas tree up, so now it looks a bit more precarious than that. And it's one of those "floating shelves", so I have no idea how to fix it. (My Christmas tree is sort of lopsided too. I'm thinking maybe I shouldn't put up shelves myself.)

Also, some of those links I was talking about days ago. The History of LOLCats. Brilliant video. Topographic map of the world's underground transit systems. Very weird and pointless, but strangely compelling. The BNP are imploding, which is nice. Mirriam Webster Dictionary's word of the year is w00t. Hee. And Shiny Shiny have chosen to illustrate their article about it with the quantum LOLCat I've been meaning to post here for ages, so you should all go see that.

Oh, that reminds me, too. The other day's cartoon on XKCD made me laugh, so here it is.

Now I'm off to the Top Gear comms to see if anyone's iconed Richard and the Arse Biscuits. Liberally distributed *hugs*es to all of you who need them, which seems to be many.

It's a very useful status :D

That transit map appears to contain amtrak train routes in the US, and crosses oceans with remarkable ease.

Ah, yeah, it says "urban rail systems", whatever they are. And oceans, bah. No trouble for the seasoned traveller.

Congrats on the job, by the way! Meant to comment, but I was skimming stupidly fast...

You might consider wearing a one-heeled pair of shoes 'round the home so as to make the tree and shelf appear to be level?

PS - vooooiiiiiicccce posssssst... :D

Oddly, I have a one-heeled pair of boots, since superglue doesn't work on leather particularly. I may try this!

Argh, I've been promising a voice post for, like, years, haven't I? Soon...

It amused me that the reporter who did the AP story on w00t claimed it was first used by Julia Roberts in "Pretty Woman". Because 1990 was an excellent year for online gaming.

Ha, yes, and a New York escort is likely to be in the frontline of computer-based slang.

Oooh, I love your Penguin book collection! I'm becoming such a book whore again ^-^

OOh, random, you have a storage heater that looks just like ours. We can't get ours to work properly. Annoying.

Love the cartoon. Made me chuckle muchly.

I have no idea how mine works - there are two twiddly dials that don't seem to do anything at all, and one that sort of works except it's really loose. Ah well.

They're so nice. I got them (relatively) cheap through a mate who works at Penguin - I've got a big poster to put up that goes with them!
