Reading recommendations

First of all, everyone who's read Deathly Hallows and is vaguely involved in fandom - or has even just read other people's reviews on their friends page - must read this: If my F-list wrote DH. It's a summary of what you would think happened in the book, going by people's reactions. It's bloody hysterical.

I'm on a bit of a fanfic spree at the moment, and there are some I just have to link to. I'm on Harry Potter crossovers today. (I squeed loudly at dermfitz about Giles/ Snape fic today; I'm thinking maybe I should have done it via Messenger rather than out loud in the middle of the office. Never mind.) Here are the best things I've seen in the last couple of days:

End Of Days by magnetic_pole. Crowley and Aziraphale discuss the forthcoming release of DH, whose side is responsible for slash fiction, and more. Good Omens fic FTW.

Recruit, Giles/ Snape fic by ubimod. Mostly recced just for the pairing, but it's a decently-written story in its own right. Giles needs lots of new Watchers after the events of the Buffy final season, and decides to recruit outcasts from the wizarding world, starting with Snape.

All A Bit Harry Potter by violet_quill. The Doctor takes Martha to Hogwarts in 1975. Starts better than it ends, but I had to rec it just for this:
"Oh, oh! Can we meet Snape? I've always wanted to meet Snape!"

The Doctor rolled his eyes at that last bit. "One of those, are you? He doesn't look like Alan Rickman, you know."

The Boy Who Lived A Bit by Barbarella. Actually, I've read loads of good Harry/ Snape fics, and now I wish I'd bookmarked the good ones. I've just spent half an hour searching through my history for this. I managed to find it even though the main thing I could remember was that there were several paragraphs (not consecutive) which consisted entirely of

Eyebrow.

Which rocks. Barbarella gives great Snape.

And, possibly most exciting at all, although I haven't read it yet because I think you have to start from the beginning, as it's a whole separate universe: placet, a Harry Potter/ Sayers' Wimsey books crossover community. I think the basic concept is that the Delagardies (the Dowager Duchess's family) are wizards, and Peter and Harriet's kids (as well as Charles and Mary's) inherit the power and go to Hogwarts.

In proper books news, I picked up Bad Monkeys by matt_ruff, and am looking forward to it enormously. (Also, here is the obligatory plug for Fool On The Hill by the same author, one of my top ten books ever.)

I'm listening to the Rent soundtrack on repeat. (Skipping the whole "Over The Moon" bit, obviously.) Why did it take me so long to get around to seeing this? Gah. Even the soundtrack can nearly make me cry, even though I'm randomly in a remarkably good mood today. My current ambition in life is to learn all the words to La Vie Boheme.

I mean, for balance, I have to point out, after you squeed at me and were amazed I knew who Giles was, that I told you that fanfic and "crossover" (PTAH!) fanfic annoy the tits off me. And then I told you you would doubtless be going home and drawing pictures of Harry Potter dressed as a unicorn. Ya know. For balance.

And I hate "squee" as well.

Sorry, yes, I should have emphasised more that I was squeeing (sorry) AT you, rather than with you. Wouldn't like people to get the idea you're interested in fanfic!

And I told you, I can't draw. (In fact, I can't really imagine how you'd be able to tell the unicorn was Harry. Maybe give it glasses and a scar. Heh. OK, stop thinking about this now.)
