Hallows spoiler policy

Nicked from redatt, cos I am lazy:

- all journal entries concerning actual (as opposed to speculated) content of HP7 shall be placed under a clearly marked cut until two weeks after the release of the paperback edition(s).

- all discussion concerning actual content of HP7 shall be confined to the comment threads of such entries -- that is to say that whilst I am generally a staunch defender of off-topic commenting, I'll be deleting or screen spoilerific comments that appear under non-HP7 related entries -- at least until I'm reasonably sure every f'listie who cares has read the book (or until two weeks after the release of the paperback edition(s), whichever is soonest).

A word about my general spoiler policy, while we're at it. I spoiler-cut quite extensively - I usually spoiler-cut everything that could possibly be considered a spoiler, because I'm a spoilerphobe myself. If there's something I miss, feel free to prod me and I'll cut it without taking offence.

Wow, when are the paperbacks due out? Because I'm sure most of LJ will be publishing spoilers without cuts way before them. (I won't be, I don't believe in ruining it for people.)

July 2008, apparently. That's usually my policy because I'm aware that some non-native English speakers like to read it in translation first and waiting for the paperback usually gives everybody a not unreasonable amount of time.

...Wow, that's a really long time. o__O Geez. I never understand why they just don't bring out paperbacks at the same time as hardbacks - hardbacks are more expensive to produce, etc. Plus a shedload of people actually prefer them, myself included.

It is, isn't it? I'm sure it was only about six to eight months between hardback and paperback editions of HBP (though that still seems like an awfully long time).

I suppose they don't release them at the same time because they know perfectly well that people like me who prefer the paperback will by the hardback so they can read it ASAP and then the paperback later on :o/

As far as I know it's so that the real fans have to pay the extra money for the hardback :S Very annoying if you start off collecting the paperbacks of an author you like...
