Here be my weekly whine about how I forgot to set the computer downloading Heroes, and I've started now and it says it's going to take *checks* er, 1 day 18 hours. But it'll probably speed up. I don't know why Heroes is so slow - I got Veronica Mars in about two and a half hours the other day, and it had far fewer seeds.

The land line in the new flat allegedly got connected today, but Be still think there isn't one there for me to sign up to broadband. Maybe it just takes a day or so to update... I hope I don't have to phone BT again. Argh. I did call the number, and it rang, and transferred me to the BT answer service I set up, so that's hopeful.

I was going to recommend tonight's Horizon, because it's called How To Commit A Perfect Murder and is pretty interesting. Although I was slightly concerned about how much I already knew about these things. I know what hypostasis is, dammit, and how it can be useful to investigators! And I know all about using maggots and bugs to find out how long since something died - it's Grissom's speciality! I did find out that gallstones are one of the only things in the human body that aren't destroyed by acid, though, and that there are people who have really funky models of tidal patterns. But anyway, it was on at 9, so unless you fancy staying up for (or taping) the Signzone repeat at 3.25 tonight, tough.

Heroes update: 22 hours. Oooh.

I wish I could get Virgin on Demand...hopefully soon they'll move into my area.

It's slow because all the rest of use are downloading it too, sweetie.

Mine says (checks) 3 days 23 hours.

Bah. Yeah, less and less people are downloading Veronica Mars nowadays, while about 60000 people are currently downloading Heroes just from Mininova :D

So are you downloading a full resolution version to view on your tv or are you going to view it on your computer? If you're just watching it on your computer, have you tried just streaming it from the US site? (in actuality, we've streamed it live to our TV as well and you could barely tell the difference.)

(does having a UK IP address preclude you from using this? And are you on the same episode we are?)

I'm guessing they can't stream directly from the site because we can't stream from the BBC. Simon tried all kinds of IP routing/hiding tricks and none of them worked.

Figures...I knew we couldn't get BBC stuff but I just figured it was them being bastards! :)

It is, but NBC are bastards too :D

LOL, NBC have always been bastards though...they started out trying to charge people to stream episodes of the favorite shows. They finally gave in when no one would watch.

I can't watch it on the NBC site. I have been recommended a utility that'll let me; I'll try it out on the new computer when I get it set up!

Weird, I started it this morning before going to work and it was finished by 11.
(I use uTorrent, and picked the most-seeded at isohunt.com)
(when I first started grabbing torrents, I had to fiddle with my firewall settings - uTorrent has a little test thingy which makes sure the right port is open, otherwise things do take a looong time ... )
May. 8th, 2007 09:57 pm (UTC)
Oooh...I think the test thing says the right port isn't open, but then the port forwarding page you get sent to wants me to have a static IP address, which I don't currently have. Hmmm.

I download from Mininova, and have for ages - I don't know if it's still the best bittorrent site for TV, but it used to be!
