The streets of ankh...

Random photo: my jewellery box and all my ankhs.

box and ankhs

I've worn an ankh for the last...I dunno, six or seven years? Might be more. I'm not usually into spiritual things or superstition (it's the Egyptian symbol of life and death, and rebirth) but I'm very attached to my ankhs. I've usually got a few about my person somewhere, whether earrings, ring, necklace, or all three.

ankhs

I don't have as many as I thought I did. Hmm. *checks out eBay* Oh, eBay has reminded me that I also have several small haematite ankhs in my bead box waiting (patiently) to be made into jewellery. And there is a Celtic ankh for sale, with a listing that suggests the seller might not know how ridiculous that concept is. Apparently it's made of "Pure Silvery Moon-Bright Pewter".

I love my jewellery box too. I'd been looking for ages for something decent to keep it in, because normal jewellery boxes are either a bit dull, or aimed at ten-year-olds. So I found something better, aimed at five-year-olds. It's so pretty!

I have done various packing-related things today. The (quite cute, actually) bloke at the shop wanted to know who I was keeping tied up, such is my consumption of gaffer tape. I like having really quite urgent things to do, because it means that when I inevitably wander off to procrastinate, I sometimes end up doing relatively practical things. It's like doing housework when you're meant to be studying, I seem to recall. Anyway, I just spent several hours putting all my flickr photos into sets. So now there's a chance I might be able to find things again...well, on the internet, if not in my flat.

I've always loved Ankhs. I made a bookend of one in Year Eight DT, only it ended up looking like a stick person with amputated legs because my teacher wouldn't leave it alone.

*boggles* Heh! Everything I ever made in woodwork ended up dodgy. Although I think my mum still uses the lopsided spice rack.

Hah! Dodgy-looking spice racks that go on to be used for years by one's mum seem to be a common rite of passage. My mum only threw mine out a few years back, when the kitchen got reorganised.

Yeah, they must be one of the things teachers get taught in training college :D

Oooh, those ankhs are really pretty! I've been looking for something lately like that, something I can find in earrings and necklaces and things like that, but I haven't thought of anything yet.

I can't even remember what started me on ankhs, now. I don't think it was Terry Pratchett's Ankh-Morpork stuff, but I'm not sure :S

Hee ^_^ They represent very neat things, at any rate.

Your ankhs are awesome! I only own one, but I really like it. Thanks for taking the picture of them.

Also good luck on keeping whoever it is tied up packing up stuff!

I like them too :) I want more now...

Packing is almost done. Though I seem to have been saying that for days. But it really is now!

Gah! If people are going to keep making terrible puns in my journal, I'm really going to have to get a *groans* icon...

(Also: hee!)

Oh, are you going to Peter's thing on Thursday?

I think your "eye roll" icon does very nicely, though! :) I'm going to try to come over to Peter's do during my "lunch" break tomorrow (it's my week of lates. agh!)

I have two ankhs that may well go to the charity shop unless you want them? One's thin silver, one's chunkier silver.

One's definitely sterling - the thinner one - and I *think* the chunkier one is. So whatever you want to offer, really. They're both on black cords. E-mail me your address and wing some cash to primadollyviolet@googlemail.com :)
