Tonight, I'm a rock'n'roll star

Question 1: I got a letter yesterday from my broadband provider, boltblue, to say they're stopping doing it. Around the same time as I leave my flat, so that's good, because it means one less thing to remember to cancel. So - what broadband provider are you on? Would you recommend them? I want uncapped if possible, and ideally 8meg, though I can't check it's available yet because I don't have the phone number.

I'm looking at Virgin just now, actually, because I can get 8meg unlimited + free phone calls any time + a free wireless modem - I think, though it just says "wireless kit" - for £19.99 a month. I could also get their freeview TV service, but their box doesn't have a hard drive, so I don't particularly want that. Can't get their cable services in the area I'm moving to, yet.

Question 2: If I was going to a rock'n'roll star themed fancy dress party, who should I dress up as?! Something easy, please.

I'm with Virgin Cable, and I'd recommend them for that. For ADSL I'd recommend Zen, who always gave me good service and get consistently good ratings.

Hmm, Zen look interesting, but they've got new tariff things that are capped quite low - the cheapest one, you only get 2gb a month. You can get 20 or 50 too, but they're £25 and £35...

Pipex have been very reliable from a technical pov. Have been with them for broadband for some time and have only ever once had no broadband, for about an hour, which it turned out was due to BT not them anyway.

Can't say how they compare on price as haven't looked for a while.

Dunno what rock star you should pick, last time I asked my friend Rich he said just go as Siouxsie Sioux in the 70's, topless, leapardskin coat and black trousers. I can't really recommend it, but it made me laugh.

Ha! Um, maybe not to the Siouxsie Sioux...

Pipex looks good too, though again their uncapped is quite expensive. I'm hooked on downloading American TV shows, unfortunately, and last year I spent a fortune because I was watching Big Brother live streaming without realising how much memory it uses...

Ha! Um, maybe not to the Siouxsie Sioux...
Funnily enough that's about what I said.

Gene Simmons from KISS complete with big hair, waggly tongue and weird make-up. Heh!
Apr. 20th, 2007 04:52 pm (UTC)
Hee! That could sort of be do-able, actually. Though someone's already going as Alice Cooper, apparently.
Apr. 20th, 2007 03:08 pm (UTC)
Well, okay, maybe a more serious suggestion would have been better. Joan Jett? Chrissie Hynde? What's her face from Blondie? Bugger, what's that woman's name? *goes to check* Ahh, it's Debbie Harry. Knew I knew that. Annie Lennox or Avril Lavigne, perhaps (though she, in all fairness, could not be called a "rock star". Shirley Manson perhaps? She has red hair too, you know. And...I'm all out of ideas.
Apr. 20th, 2007 04:54 pm (UTC)
But you have had many more ideas than I did!

Do you think I could get away with just going barefoot and saying I'm Sandie Shaw? Heh...
Apr. 23rd, 2007 09:11 am (UTC)
Strangely, I did think of Sandie Shaw as well...it's the easiest one to do!

Long-sleeved stripy T-shirt, jeans, boots (preferably cowboy) and black, shaggy hair/wig, and you can be Alex Harvey.

And if folks in Glasgow don't know who Alex Harvey is, they damn well ought to.
Apr. 20th, 2007 04:55 pm (UTC)
Oooh, they totally would, this lot. That's a very good thought, because long sleeved stripey t-shirts I can do!
Apr. 20th, 2007 03:42 pm (UTC)
Be*. 24Meg broadband, £24 per month, uncapped, free wireless modem. Can't say fairer than that.

Oh, and go as Tori Amos. Cut-off jeans and a t-shirt (incredibly expensive shoes optional)
Apr. 20th, 2007 05:01 pm (UTC)
Oooh, now that broadband looks fantastic. And is available in my area. *bookmarks*

Tori Amos is a distinct possibility too, though I'm not sure how recognisable I'd be...

I'm with virgin and if you get the V+ service you get a hard drive, also large selection of discovery channels etc which is fun.

As to something easy to dress as for the party, how about groupie? :p
Apr. 21st, 2007 09:05 pm (UTC)
I wouldn't get the TV channels cos the cable isn't available in my area, which is a bummer, because I liked your TV on demand thing :(

I know this is dull, but we're with BT broadband, and Pooka was before he left Glesga. They've been super so far, we have free broadband phone, but haven't got round to using it. But you know how good I am at using phones :) (the internet probs they had in glasgow were entirely caused by cables being stretched too tight round rubbish, I know this cos they all disappeared when I tidied for the messy shites :D) We could've got a wireless modem, but didn't and I'm not sure why not.... got a router with the phone thingy instead, free. OOh there was 1 bad thing - the ethernet cable they sent us didn't work at all.

Internet is generally a hell of a lot faster down here though; dunno if that makes any dif? Sara is on Tiscali and she recommends that too. :)

I'll have to check out BT prices and stuff, yeah! And my internet connection has improved dramatically since I plugged the phone straight into the socket without the extension cable :D (Of course, now I don't hear the phone if I'm in the living room, but you can't have everything.)
Apr. 25th, 2007 03:50 pm (UTC)
bloody phone extension cables. You have an answerphone at least, they'll leave messages if its important :)

Apr. 21st, 2007 08:30 am (UTC)
ooh i went on a bit sorry.... um what about suzi quattro? or kurt cobain, and I can't think more. too early sorry.
Apr. 21st, 2007 09:09 pm (UTC)
Heh, I can't even think what suzi quattro looks like. I'm quite tempted by san_valentine's Alex Harvey one, because it's nice and easy and doesn't involve any flesh showing. Party @ Steve's so they'll all be muso's, so Alex Harvey should be recognisable.
Apr. 25th, 2007 03:45 pm (UTC)
oh awesome of course, it was his birthday on the 23rd wasn't it?? (having a diary is all well and good - remembering to do something about the notes I have in it re birthdays and the like ould be more helpful)

Alex Harvey is a great idea plus kudos for being cool, hehe

If/when you see Steve could you wish him a very happy birthday from me? Ta muchly :D
Apr. 25th, 2007 07:50 pm (UTC)
Party has been cancelled due to his nephew being ill :( Sounds quite serious. I'll pass on the birthday wishes though!
