I was fairly happy about my time off over Christmas, because I have four whole days. In a row. Which is more than I've had for a couple of years, ever since they decided we were absolutely essential workers who must be available in case of a last-minute carolling subtitle crisis.

But now half of you lot are buggering off on your Christmas holidays already. I'm getting jealous. So, reassure me I'm not the only person working right up till Christmas Eve, here...

It's a rarity I get this much time off, but I plan to make the most of it while I get it. And it helps when you don't have to clear your holidays with anyone else. :)

We don't work weekends. (It is civil service, after all.)

We also get to take two hours off on either the 23rd or the 29th. The city's generosity knows no bounds.

Whoo! Two hours! I'm surprised the place won't fall apart :D

(Hang on, the 23rd is Saturday...22nd?)

It's only since last year that we've closed for the whole week, and the extra three days come out of our leave... but apparently those three days were originally Crimbo week off anyway before I joined and were added to workers' leave allocation as extras.

Guh. Our place used to do the "we're closed, but we're taking it out of your leave" thing, it's really annoying.

Our company gives us extra vacation days in December instead of a Christmas bonus, so I took the 5th-8th off to get stuff done, too.

See, that's brilliant! I'd rather have that than a bonus, I think. Depending on the amount of the bonus, I guess.

I don't officially get any time off, ever, myself, so I filled in as though I was Mr Grumpy, who's last day of work this year was today and it was a half day, too. As was yesterday and every day since last Wednesday.

It's just not fair, is it?

My office is closed Christmas Day, half of Boxing Day, and the 1st. I get those days off for free.

I've taken time off from now until the 27th - and negotiated being on call for the 28th and 29th, rather than in the office, so I can laze about.

*half* of Boxing Day? Heh. Hope it's the early half.

You've just reminded me, I think I've got an on-call day lurking around somewhere in my days off. I should probably check when it is and try to be vaguely sober and have more than 2 hours' sleep.

Were there 'posed t'be a link, there?

Ohhhh...no, it was just my incompetence. I forgot how long the poll would be, it was just meant to point to the icon I used for the post :D This one!

My lot get 25/26th, and 1st/2nd off (unlike the London lot, who don't get the 2nd).
On the other hand, I'm on call on the 1st/2nd too, and may even get called (but we get compensated).
pickwick
Dec. 21st, 2006 12:41 pm (UTC)
Yeah, we get compensated and get well fed if we're in on the 2nd, whereas our London office don't. I don't think.

I suppose being on call is bad if you want to go mad on Hogmanay, but OK otherwise...

I have xmas eve and day off. I am working Hogmanay, new years day and the second of January. It is highly likely this is at my basic rate... You wouldn't think I was working in Scotland...

Who knows maybe the managers will have the prescence of mind to buy everyone whisky or wine for the inconvinience of missing all of Scotlands national holiday...

The worst part I hate Christmas... Yet love Hogmanay... Bastards...

Oh, ugh. That's not good. Hopefully they'll feed you, yes - I know the people in my work get special meals including wine and things, *plus* our manager usually turns up with more food from one of the local hotels.

We usually get either Xmas or NY off, and get to choose. It works out quite well, people usually get their preferences.

I hope you at least get a taxi on NYs day...otherwise I'd be saying I couldn't get to work cos of public transport!
