Happy Thanksgiving...

..for yesterday. Ah well. I am enlightened - I didn't realise it was a moveable feast. That would explain why I have no idea of the date.

Give thanks for the fact I had to go up to the hospital for a smear test. Ick. It wasn't bad, actually - I got 2 hours off work for a five-minute appointment (hospital on other side of town, slight detour to shops on way back), and I got to wander round the hospital for ages. Yes, I got lost. Well, I didn't lose ME, I lost the department I was looking for. Even though I've been there before. Found it eventually, sharing one of the very dodgy lifts with three very cheerful hospital staff and a bloke on a gurney. "You have to batter the button at least three times or it doesn't work," said Cheerful Workman. Well, that gives me great confidence in your bloody hospital, doesn't it? And I hate lifts that creak.

Also yesterday I heard a shop playing Last Christmas for the first time this year. I suppose it's nearly December...

The Christmas lights in Glasgow got turned on last Sunday...I think they've moved it forward a week. I'm sure it used to be the last Sunday in November. I have bought no Christmas presents and I've only just got round to sending my parents my Amazon wishlist, though they've been harassing me for ages. I just so can't be bothered this year.

It looks cheap and tacky, I think - I wish they'd decide whether they were doing lots of colours, or just gold. The mix is kind of horrible. Still, at least the City Chambers (in the background) is nice and just clear gold-ish lighting now - it went through a phase of being green and purple, which was a bit weird. And a lot of the statues are lit up pink now - you can just about see one in the foreground, there. I keep wondering how these 18th-century military heroes (er, or whoever they are) would feel about being displayed in pink neon. Though I'm not sure why, since I've never worried about the feelings of the traffic cone man. (Who appears to be the Duke of Wellington. Must pay attention.)

Today, so far, it is Not Raining. This is news. Clouds are coming in, though, so I'm sure it'll be raining before I leave the office...

If you squint (or look at the bigger version) you can see the blue trees (I think) on the top of all the poles round the edge :)

At least someone else can't be bothered with the festivities too. :-)
Also, I do have a wishlist on Amazon, but I can't see my parents buying much from it, as some of it is occult stuff. Hmmm. Though I suppose they could buy me Peep Show 1-3, Family Guy 1-5 or Look Around You (1 and/or 2).

Mine have totally got into the amazon thing, but I haven't got much on my christmas wishlist... I need to find some things that aren't books! There must be some cool Doctor Who toys :D

I've been making an Amazon wishlist throughout the year, but it's really only a reminder to me what I'd like. My mum doesn't shop on the internet (I've tried to persuade her to take a free Senior Citizen's course on computers and internet but no luck) and Nick won't use Amazon because the last two times he had his card details stolen. poot.

I've got my normal wishlist, and then I make a separate one for my parents to buy christmas presents off. My dad's great on the internet now, and my mum's improving!

Nightmare about getting card details stolen. I buy from amazon all the time and I've never had a problem - very unlucky to get his card details nicked twice! Amazon's one of the only places I let actually store my card details now. Because I need my one-click ordering of books.

Yeah, I've never had a problem with Amazon either - slow to send re-sellers but nothing dodgy. I just ended up writing my list out. :)

First play of Last Christmas, eh? If it carries on like this then in a few years it will be actually closer to the last Christmas than the upcoming one when the damn song comes on.

Like Creme Eggs - I first saw one *before Christmas* last year. And now those creme egg bars are out all year round.

I think Thanksgiving is always the fourth Thursday in November, BICBW.

Glad they have got the lighting-up bit done. We were accidentally caught up in it last year, the City Centre was in complete chaos.
