When I Grow Up I'll Be Stable

It is a weekend day. I am not working. And I got up in the morning, voluntarily.

*looks around for signs of world ending*

Well, it was only partially voluntarily. I had to make it down to the post office, a couple of miles away and not on anything resembling a bus route, before half 12. So I've been down and back, and now have exciting shinies. I have a new mouse, because I broke the scroll wheel on my old one. I seem to have accidentally bought a rollerball rather than an optical mouse (that's what you get when you make your decision based on the fact that the scroll wheel is purple), but at least that means I have a chance to use my Death of Rats mousemat, which was too shiny for optical mice to work on.

(The DJ on XFM was just talking about he never got to see Garbage live, which made me feel firstly smug, because I saw them several times, secondly sad, because I don't think I knew they'd split up, and thirdly old, as I realised the DJ probably hadn't seen them because he was about 12 in 1996. Oh well.)

The other two parcels at the post office were DVDs. There was customs duty to pay on the one from PlayUSA, which is why I couldn't just get it redelivered like I normally do. There isn't usually customs to pay. *grumps* The guy at the post office reckons they're probably having a crackdown because more people are importing DVDs now. Anyway, I now have Veronica Mars season two. I'd also tried to order the Bing Crosby Anything Goes film from PlayUSA, but they said they weren't allowed to send it to the UK. So, obviously, I went on ebay, and got it there. Unfortunately I've just noticed that Bing Crosby did *two* versions of Anything Goes, and this is the 1950s one which isn't really based on the stage show but uses some of the same songs, rather than the 1930s one that I actually wanted. Dammit. Anyway, I also have Reefer Madness: the Musical. An Emmy-winning musical inspired by the 1930s ridiculously over the top anti-cannabis film of the same name, starring Alan Cumming, Neve Campbell and Kristen Bell (Veronica Mars). This film might, in fact, have been made for me. Squee!

I have a dilemma, to do with how geeky I can allow myself to be. I don't need a big wardrobe - most of my clothes are drawer-bound. I have a few shirts and some hoodies that get hung up, and my winter coat, and that's about it. I currently have an enormous heavy wardrobe, which is also covered in stickers from my childhood that won't come off. (Bros. Phillip Schofield. Lots of Big! stickers.) I don't think I need it, and was vaguely thinking of one of those canvas zip-up Ikea ideas anyway for when I move. And then I found this:

A Tardis Zipperobe! (Hideous word.) So I'm now vacillating madly between "Squee! Want!" and "No, that's really a bit *too* sad and geeky."

I got the impression it was an indefinite hiatus rather than an actual breakup, but I could easiy be wrong.

Oh, you're right, actually - just checked the website. And wiki says a greatest hits album, b-sides album and DVD should be coming soon. Excellent!

Annoyingly out of touch DJ, then.

I don't know - it could be one of those things which loses its novelty pretty quickly... But then again only you can know how truly geeky you are - if it will really give you joy every time you look at it for years to come, then go for it!

Well, I don't think it'll start to annoy me, which is the more likely problem. And at least it's *useful* - I'm getting rid of most of my action figures, because they're just clutter.

I know you can't and that makes it ok.
But come to my 21st!
11th of November,
Christchurch, New Zealand.

Or at least, give me permission to meet you if I ever make it to the UK, because, you know, you're made of purest awesome.

Note, if you DO intend to mysteriously make it to my 21st, you need to tell me soon for the purposes of catering.

In this day and age I don't think the term "too geeky" matters anymore.

And OMG... Reefer Madness: the Musical is like crack itself. And Kristen Bell (or K.Bell as the cast calls her on the commentary) is fantastic in it.

I've been trying to download it for *so long*, but there are never any seeds around. I can't watch it tonight cos I'm going down to my parents' for their anniversary dinner - gutted!

Re: A Tardis Zipperobe!
Judging by other things of the same type I've seen, I assume it'll have a fairly lightweight wooden frame. Not sure, though...I wonder if any offline shops have them.
