Spooks - anyone watch it? I've never really bothered - except to see that scene in the first series that got all the publicity - but it's actually Dead Good. I saw one a couple of weeks ago and loved it, but thought it was probably a one-off, but this week's is great too.

I discovered today, when someone asked me for recommendations, that I know nothing about current PC games. All my recs are about two years out of date. (UT 2004, anyone?) So what good new games are there? Particularly RPGs and empire building games, but anything really.

Guitar Hero II for the PS2 comes out on November 7th. Which is only about 6 weeks away. *cheers*

What do you think are the chances of any of the SSX games coming out for the DS? That would be the best thing ever. Yes, I have too many game machines, I know.

Another interesting post on The Dilbert Blog today, about poking things you know to be dangerous with sticks, and whether it's your fault when you then die horribly. And it's not even about Steve Irwin. It's all a Mettyfor, you see. I haven't read the comments yet, but they're usually good.

Remember that story a few months ago about Craig Charles smoking crack in front of a tabloid journalist? From the Mirror. Anyway, he ended up with a caution. Nobody really does give a crap about drugs any more, do they? As it should be, when it comes to the law. But the story annoyed me by finding it necessary to mention the rape charge he was *cleared of 11 years ago*. This is the sort of thing that makes me argue that false rape claims are so incredibly damaging - because people don't forget. Ever.

Passing stranger.
Sounds like you have similar PC game taste to my own. My firm favourites are the Age of Empires ones. I think number 3 was the last; last year. Alternatively Civ4 is a cut above the previous ones and a nice intermittent distraction without much need to remember the plot. Spellforce (haven't got the latest yet) was also fun playing. Anything more recent than that I've not tried. My PC's in need of upgrading (pah!).

AoE is also out on the DS in the US and is a superb game, but buggy to all hell. Don't pick a username with 3 letters or less - like I did - or else it will brick at some point (i.e. become a useless hunk of plastic - they may fix it by the time it gets EU release). :-)

Hello :)

I really like Age of Empires - didn't realise a new one came out last year, pretty sure I don't have that. And I want it for the DS now...ebay here I come! Or maybe I should wait for the EU version. I've got Civ 4 already and it's great.

My PC needs Windows reinstalled at the moment, so everything's on mega go-slow. But I'm waiting to borrow Windows disks...

Re: Passing stranger.
Hello back!

I'd definitely recommend against buying AoE DS from eBay, as it's possible that you'd get a defective cart that someone else has already bricked (I've seen it happen!). I got mine from videogamesplus.ca on a recommendation. When I bricked mine they actually took it back and refunded my money. Or there's dvdboxoffice.com, though waiting for the UK release (if it ever happens!) would be safest.

Other DS games I've been recommended/would recommend: Ace Wright (it sound hilarious - I got mine cheap from Asda-entertainment online), Another Code (inventive adventure game) and, of course, Advance Wars.

I've only seen 4 or so episode of Spooks, but they were great fun.

I haven't played many PC games recently - except for discovering that there's an updated version of Another World available (http://www.anotherworld.fr/anotherworld_uk/telechargement.htm). Oh, and Half-Life 2, which is now also nearly two years old. Instead I've mostly been playing on the GC. Lego Star Wars kicks ass!

Oh, and the Dilbert thing is great - I got some great arguments on my journal a looong while back with a similar post.

I'm out of the loop on games as well.
I bought Railroad Tycoon 3 at the secondhand shop a couple of months ago and it's still entertaining me.
I played the demo of FEAR but the bots kicked my arse AND it scared me shitless, but not in a fun way like Quake and Doom used to.

UT2004? Do you still play?

K's brother has done some work on the sound for Spooks. I loved the first series, but managed to miss most of the rest.
