Early morning complaints

I realise I'm never happy, but it's *too cold* in our office with the aircon on. It's raining outside. Bah. (Yes, I could turn the aircon off, but then it'd be too hot. You see?)

The radio informed me this morning that the football (Scottish premier league, anyway) starts again tomorrow. It's only about five minutes since the World Cup finished! Gah. (Just realised I can't remember who won the WC. Italy? I know France were in the final and I don't think they won...hurrah for ignoring things!)

There's a story on the BBC news site just now which starts "Actress Sophie Thompson - the sister of Nanny McPhee star Emma Thompson - is to join the cast of EastEnders." Nanny McPhee star Emma Thompson. That's so not how I'd identify her to ANYONE. Poor woman's done all sorts of wonderful, intellectual things, and she goes down in Beeb history as "Nanny McPhee star". Pah.

It really is bizarre the way they do that - referring to actors by the last thing they were in rather than any of the good things they were in.

"Emma Thompson, co-star of one of the funniest sex scenes ever" would be much better.

I suspect they assume people have memories slightly worse than that of your average goldfish. Still...

Heh, this is one of the first icons I ever made - I hardly ever use it now. But it is very pretty!

And, exactly! I'd only vaguely heard of Nanny McPhee (and then only because of saturation advertising on TV), and didn't even remember Emma T was in it, although now I do recall being slightly disappointed in her...

Bah to over-ethusiastic air conditioning. I'm in BC and it's freezing and we can't turn it off or down or anything useful like that - it's centrally controlled by a megalomanical machine that won't be told that we have no playout kit in this 'ere playout suite so it doesn't have to be kept at 18°C.

Eeep! You're distinctly worse off than us. (We've turned the aircon off again, so it's now just slightly too warm.)

But at least we can put on a cardie or something when it gets too cold. I'm sure it's better that it's too cold than too hot.

Anyway, I've found a fix. I quit! ;o)

I saw that! Congrats on the new job!

Who or what is 'Nanny McPhee'? Never heard of it. It sounds like a remake of that ghastly Robin Williams film to me (I can't be bothered to Google it).

I wouldn't have thought that Emma Thompson needed any introduction - but I suppose that there are viewers who wouldn't recognise anyone who hasn't been on "I'm a Z-list Celebrity who will humiliate him/herself for publicity".

Eh, I can't actually remember anything about it except that it looked dreadful. Must've blocked it from my mind...

It looked to me like a remake of Mary Poppins, but people that have seen it say that it's actually very good.

Can't imagine Sophie Thompson doing domeafavourleaveitahtturnitupgitahtofmypubyouslaaaaaaag, somehow.

And I always think of Emma as (one of the stars) of Tutti Frutti, although the real star was of course Richard Wilson.

"As soon as I can get your redundancy money together, Miss Toner, you're fired."

Karma, innit? Payback for that atrocious "comedy" show she had on Channel 4 where she dressed up as a tomato, and for appearing in the awful Kenneth'sPeter's Friends.

But true, she deserves much better, though to me she'll always be Emma (daughter of Eric) Thompson.
