I hate Snopes, it ruins all my fondest illusions.

Apparently frogs won't let themselves be boiled to death, no matter how slowly you increase the temperature.

I'm turning into Alan Davies on QI - none of the "interesting facts" I know are true. It's a problem.

Random facts
Here's some replacement frog facts (from a bit of googling:

The collective noun for frogs is an Army of frogs.
The mohave believe fire was brought to humans by a frog.
A Chinese myth claims the world is carried on the back of a frog. Earthquakes are caused when the frog moves.

Other facts
The only London underground station that doesn't share a letter with the word Mackerel is St. John's Wood.
It's impossible to lick your elbow. The reason this is a fun fact is that a lot of people will try.
In stage productions of Peter Pan, Mr. Darling and Captain Hook are always played by the same actor. (There's no apparent reason for this). In the Disney animated version, they also used the same voice actor, and made the two characters look similar in the drawings.

But those are all a little dry, and pretty arbitrary.

Something I thought was interesting - when Marie and Pierre Curie were discovering radium, virtually nothing was known about radioactivity, and there wasn't a hint that it was potentially dangerous. Marie Curie's notebooks are still considered dangerously radioactive.

Re: Random facts

There's got to be a *lot* of issues in Peter Pan...

No, seriously...
Mr Darling is sort-of effeminate and emasculated at the beginning of Peter Pan, which is part of everybody's ids being too buttoned down, until it all blows up and the embodiment of childish wildness abducts the kids, but then they run into the embodiment of Bad Daddy who has to get killed off before they can go back.

Hehe, thank you! I know the "mackerel" one already - it's my favourite fact ever because it's so utterly pointless.

I'm trying to remember whether Tony Head played Mr Darling as well as Captain Hook when I saw him in Peter Pan last year, and have no idea. Obviously I wasn't paying attention when he wasn't swashbuckling. I suspect the reason, though, is the same as the reason Eddie and Dr Scott were in Rocky Horror - because one's only in the first act, one in the second, and it's cheaper just to hire one actor :) And then, like everything else in theatre, it became Tradition.
