We loooooooove Serenity. 'Cept it doesn't have the song, and that's always bad.

I can't believe they killed Wash! Argh eek! But we both thought they were going to do an Angel at one point and send them all out in a blaze of glory, so losing a couple of people isn't bad.

They didn't mention Innara being a Companion at all in the main movie, and deleted the scene where it did get mentioned. Be interesting to listen to the commentary on that. But I liked that they deleted the scenes with the assassin-guy and Innara, and with the assassin-guy figuring out where to find her and stuff - it made him much scarier. And he was scary. Where were the Hands Of Blue, guys, though?

Kaylee seemed a bit more sex-mad than normal. Jayne didn't seem to do much. But I suppose there are too many characters to give everyone full characterisation and a place in the plot.

Can't believe they killed Shepherd Book without us ever finding out how he knows all this stuff about the Feds, either! Backstory, people, we need backstory.

And whoo, does River kick ass or what? Impressive fight scenes, I thought.

(possibly to be added to later...)

Yay for Serenity :) I couldn't believe they killed Wash either - but that scene was outstanding and Gina Torres was amazing. And when River was swallowed up by the crowd of Reavers, I thought she was dead too - her fight scenes with them were out of this world.

You should read the recap on Television Without Pity - for once it's relatively snark-free and a genuine analysis of what the film is about. And they also lament the one-dimensionality of movie-Jayne as opposed to tv-Jayne. But they liked the lack of explanation of Book's back-story and I kind of agreed with them. Sometimes it's nice not to have everything spelled out.

Oooh, yeah, I must read the TWOP stuff! I don't think I've even read their series recaps.

I don't think I'd have liked them to go into Book's back story in the film, but the fact we'll never get it now is...frustrating to my nosiness! I think I like it, technically, but it's also annoying :)

So many of the scenes were amazing. River, and Wash, and Zoe...yeah.

And I loved River and Mal piloting the ship at the end - so sweet when he asks if she knows what the first rule of flying is and she replies "I do. But I like to hear you say it."

Yeah, it's lovely, and it lifts it up from the poignancy of Mal going in to pilot when we know it's usually Wash.

Killing off Wash was inspired, especially with the scene following - Jayne is shot, Kaylee is poisoned, Zoe is injured, Simon looks critical. Heck, Joss has killed off one of them, why not finish off his series in style?

Brilliant. Watched it last night.

Yeah, we so thought they were all gonna die. I was quite unreasonably scared! Specially when River had defeated the Reavers but then the Alliance turned up...

Was that the first time you'd seen it or did you see it in the cinema? I managed to stay totally unspoiled, which is a first for me.

I'd already seen it twice at the cinema.

Did you notice how Mal clicks the same three buttons that Wash usually clicks when he's doing Pilot Stuff? Wash mentions it in one of the documentaries on the Firefly discs, that whenever he's called on to do Stuff, he has these three buttons he likes to click as they make really good clicky noises.

I nearly lost it at the cinema when Mal clicked them.

Man... I cried for an HOUR after I saw that movie. Wash was my favorite. It was HORRIBLE. I still can't watch it without fountains of tears. It's pathetic!
Feb. 28th, 2006 01:35 pm (UTC)
Oddly enough, when I watched it again last night, the tears only came in the last scene with Mal talking to his "Li'l abatross" and Serenity flying up through the storm into the light.

Oh man, I was a total wreck.
Feb. 28th, 2006 01:42 pm (UTC)
Yeah, you were. *pats*

Feb. 28th, 2006 04:20 pm (UTC)
That would have been the Blakes 7 ending, I suppose.
Feb. 28th, 2006 10:31 am (UTC)
For the honour of UK fandom, that must be changed to "do a Blake's 7" instead of "do an Angel".

The Men With Blue Hands are killed off in the Serenity comic series which takes place between the TV series and film. I got fed-up with people asking about this and thought they shouldn't be expected to buy the comics, so I did a detailed description of what happens.
Feb. 28th, 2006 10:37 am (UTC)
Ah, cool! Must buy the comic series. Ooh, Amazon have it for much cheapness.
Feb. 28th, 2006 11:18 am (UTC)
I got it at the local comic store for £6.99, I think. I've nearly got a full set of the individual comics too (3 issues with 3 different covers each), barring 2 versions of the covers for issue #3. Shiny.

they come in different covers too, so you can collect the set.

Or just buy the one-volume wholething edition.
