Telly recommendation

UK people:

There's a really good series called Backlash, where famousish people talk about and investigate views which are contrary to popular belief, kind of thing. At 7.20 tonight there's an episode called Kids: Who needs 'em? which is really, really good, and I'd recommend it to anyone childfree or anyone who's interested in why people would be childfree, and why we all seem to be so gorram snippy about it. (No pun intended.) And anyone else who just wants 40 minutes of good quality telly, actually.

I've just subtitled the first half of it. A stand-up comic quoted in it made me laugh: "Unless you can eat, walk and talk of your own volition, you're not a human being, you're an unusually adventurous tumour." And I think the last 20 minutes of it have managed to convert one of the younger blokes in the office to childfreeness - he's just sitting there going, "They're all making really good points!!" in a slightly alarmed tone.

Children are absolutely necessary otherwise how do I find an excuse to go and see Narnia and Charley and the Chocolate Factory, and play on the penny slotties at the seaside or cuddle donkeys?

No, you haven't got the hang of this at all - for these things you *borrow* children, and give them back later!

It's been a successful strategy for me so far. :)

That works for me, as a parent. Someone else takes the child to the saccharine stuff while I get to see the grown-up films I'd otherwise have to wait for DVD/TV and the wee small hours to see. :)

The problem is you need a constant supply of new ones coz they grow up and start going to the pub and wanting to see adult films, and then they reach 14 and it's uncool to be seen with antiquarians.
