Cards

I was watching the guys play poker last night at LARP, and trying to pick up the rules of Texas Hold'em. Seemed simple enough. But I have a total mental blank about poker - I've learned to play variants of it three or four times, well enough to play for a couple of hours, and I always, always forget all the rules again shortly afterwards. Last night, I picked up the rules for Texas Hold'em easily enough, but I still couldn't remember what you were meant to accomplish. Pairs are good, and aces, and runs, but I've no idea what beats what. At least, I do *now*, cos I've just looked it up, but I didn't last night, even though I've learnt the ranking several times before.

It's probably a good thing. I'd probably just lose all my money if I played properly. But apparently there's a Brujah (my clan) poker night coming up, and I don't know whether I'd rather be left out, or cleaned out. Maybe I'll take a class in card-sharking.

And a weird food meme seemed strangely appropriate, after yesterday's posts.

I'm going to bold them rather than put stars, cos that's what you DO. Bah.

We're having a poker night? Interesting, i've got plenty of chips so we're covered for markers. Guess we'd need to be having it at someone's house? Or we just going to take over a pub?

Heh, I presume there'll be a way around it.

better be, the rules state, if any player finds out In character or out of character they can set up something to watch covertly and then attend the meeting, all they need to do is tell the storytellers.

I've tasted Durian Fruit..nasty nasty stuff, someone brought some off holiday for a foodie friend, had a taste and did the 'can I take some home for kids to try' bit..put a tiny piece [triple wrapped] in fridge. In morning #2 shouted upstairs that something was stinking kitchen out!

I tend to remember most of it by the fact that rarer things are worth more.

So pairs are really common, three of a kind less common, three _and_ a pair less common still and 4 of a kind extremely uncommon.

I tend to get runs and flushes the wrong way round, but my brother has a few guides that he hands out at his game sessions, to remind you.

Hmmm, yeah, that makes sense. I think if I go to the poker night I'll take a list...
