Doorways to Danger

I was all set to get immensely pissed off and rant about this, but when I actually read it I couldn't stop laughing...

The title of this post is a quote from spiderpixie's RE teacher, who thought all this sort of thing was a Doorway to Danger.

But what's to get annoyed about in paras 1 and 2?! It's kind of the point of God and that, surely, that Satan's not his mate.

Ooops, didn't mean to get just one panel. Argh. Incompetence.

It's just a Chick tract, though, right? They're brilliant.

Actually, within the context of the *story*, it makes perfect sense, really, where they're all freakishly obsessed with their game to the point of endangering each other and so need to be saved; it's just the representations of that as "normal" that's a bit off.

I preferred Warhammer anyway.

A bit off?? Heh...

I don't think they'd approve of Warhammer either, y'know.

Well, they aren't keen on bumming or drug use either so I'm stuffed.

Well, it is just a bit off. I mean, it's just silly. No-one could take that seriously. If you do, then you probably also get influenced by the way dogs look at you in the street or something, so it's kind of negligible.

Well, yes, hence the laughing and pointing, rather than the ranting and campaigning.

OMG Chick tracts! I just cannot BELIEVE that people can take these seriously! They're INSANE!

And hysterical.

Of course... wait... maybe it's true! OMG! I think playing D&D made me a lesbian.

That has to be it. Not that whole... love and devotion thing. ;)

ten years ago i might have ranted about misrepresentation,

but these days as a man with multiple personalities (all of them elven clerics) i have seen the error of my ways. praise the lord.

Not so much misrepresentation as wildly delusional. Although, now I think a moment, it occurs to me that there are a vast number of fanboys who *WISH* that they could aquire real powers through D&D.

I think what really bothers these Christian types about roleplaying is that it tends to sharpen and train the minds of players until the point where they see through the rampant hypocrisy, willfull corruption and patriarchical oppression of organised religion and refuse to participate in it any more.

Speaking personally, having experienced both, I'll take D&D rather than Scripture Union any day.

n.b. don't ever ever go to a Scripture Union camp, nor allow others to do so. It took me two years to de-program myself afterwards.
