How'd you pronounce Moog, anyway? Not like that, apparently.

This Google Talk thing. Do we need ANOTHER instant message thing? Is Google trying to take over the world? Me and mind_expander decided they were definitely evil. We had proof that they're run by Dr Evil. I can't remember what it was, but it was definite proof. Honest.

Still Websudokuing. (In between working, obviously. I'm having a game every hour, as my "screen break". Well, my eyes are used to screens...) Current times: 4 minutes 49 seconds for Easy (haven't beaten it, but I've got under 5 minutes 10 seconds twice more...), and 9 minutes 56 seconds for the Medium.

It's all very well living nocturnally, but sometimes it just doesn't work. Last night I went to bed at about half four, aiming to sleep till half twelve or one today - that's 8 hours' sleep, perfectly reasonable. Should have all worked terrifically well. At 9.20 the doorbell rang. I'm expecting lots of parcels, so I leapt out of bed and answered it. Hurrah! A parcel. A Mage book for one of CG's friends, and a Dictionary Of Imaginary Places for me, which now that I see it I have a funny feeling I've already got a different edition of it.

Back to bed. Unfortunately now that I've been woken up, the noise upstairs plus the noise outside my window (main road) is stopping me getting back to sleep. 9.50 - doorbell rings again. Ooops! It's a plumber, looking for an empty flat. (Why was he ringing the doorbell? Who knows?) I sent him upstairs, went back to bed, and tried to doze. 10.30. Doorbell! Another parcel - a present for someone I bought on ebay. Where's all MY stuff? Grrr. Back to bed. Outside's gone a bit quieter, so I think I got to sleep. More or less. 11.15. Doorbell! And it's the plumber again, to tell me they're turning off the water. I DON'T CARE! I'M ASLEEP! Back to bed.

I wonder if I can get my bed soundproofed.

Also, I wonder if I can get home in time for Lost tonight. I finish at 10. I live about 15 mins away by taxi. Lost starts at 10. Technically unlikely, then, but not impossible...we shall see.

That's an interesting article! I CERTAINLY understand about having one's name misprounced and spelled incorrectly, too. Add that to the difficulty of having two last names that are not hyphenated. It confounds most Americans. If you see three names in succession, the second name is obviously the "middle name", right? At least in the UK you're a little more used to multiple last names. I still don't understand the naming conventions there. Someone explain it to me ;)

The thing is, I dropped my middle name when I got married. I used to be Twila Marie Davis. When I got married, I changed it to Twila Davis Reed. Not Twila Davis-Reed or Twila Marie Davis-Reed or any other variants. Just Twila Davis Reed.

Then for pronunciation, I get anything from "Twill-uh", "Twee-luh", "Twee-'LAH", "Twuh-luh". I wish my mother had spelled it like most women with my name...Twyla. Although, you might still get a lot of "Twill-uh"

It's "t-WHY-luh". Sheesh :)

Heh. *I* know how to pronounce your name.

I'm not sure if we even have naming conventions here any more. At least, the old ones are well outdated (like calling a woman Mrs Husbands-first-name Husbands-surname) so no-one does them, but there are a variety of newer ways to do things.

And yeah, as a Carolyn I know all about mispronounciation, too. I am neither a Carol, a Caroline (aaargh! All through school!), a Carol-Anne or a Karen. Grrrr.

Bah at all the disturbances! Hope you make it home in time for Lost!

Seems unlikely...the boss that's in isn't letting us go early :o( But might be able to rewind it when I get in, cos I've got Freeview. We will see!

Ah, a target to beat! That's impressive!

I did 3 minutes 37 seconds later last night, though I think that one was 'a bit lucky'.

Understand about noise early in morning, when have to get up early, small children/birds/dogs next door are totally silent, though never whilst I'm still in bed..

I certainly don't need another chat client.

But if they fully supported Jabber (which means supporting multiple servers) then I might be interested.

Heck, if they can persuade MSN, AOL, or whoever to link up to them, so I can have _one_ chat client, that'd be nice too...

I use Trillian sometimes - it supports aim, msn, yahoo and icq. Haven't explored it much, though.

Oh, I use GAIM. It's better than Trillian, but it's still not an actual unified client - it's a hodge-podge of different things stuck together.

While I think of it - what's this Layout called? I like it more than mine (other than the colour).
Aug. 25th, 2005 02:08 pm (UTC)
It's called Smooth Sailing.

do you really think getting your bed soundproofed is necessary? I mean you can already sleep through me hoovering and me practising my violin in the next room. If you can sleep through that surely you can sleep through anything?!
