Film 1: Snow Cake

Film 1 of the year I watched entirely accidentally - I was slow to change channel after QI XL and suddenly Alan Rickman was on my telly. The film was called Snow Cave, and I thought it was going to be a bit tedious after reading the synopsis: "A drama focused on the friendship between a high-functioning autistic woman and a man who is traumatized after a fatal car accident." The plot was a little heavy-handed at times, but the quality of the writing and, especially, the outstanding performances from Rickman and Sigourney Weaver, made it into a great film. It's sharp and funny and real and totally not an "issue" movie, and has a great soundtrack with original music from Broken Social Scene, and tunes from various Welsh bands including the Super Furry Animals.

And then I found out that Tim Burton's doing Alice In Wonderland, coming out in 2010 next year! And with an astounding cast including Johnny Depp and Helena Bonham Carter, as usual; Michael Sheen, Alan Rickman, Christopher Lee, Crispin Glover, Frances de la Tour...also Anne Hathaway and Matt Lucas, but you can't have everything.
