Eyes wide shut

A task from Mlj user-"theferrett"< 0 write a blog entry wit your eyes closed. How are your touch-typing skills? I suspect mine aren't as good as they should be, although I'm doing the html with my eyes shut as well, which is more of a challenge than the noraml typing.

Touch-typing is, far and away, the most useful thing I actually learned in school. I learned it in a lass called Office and Information Studies, which was mostly taken by people from the "lower" streams (mostly girls, too) who the teachers thought might someday aspire to be secretaries. The successor to Secretarial Studies, I guess. So it wasn't really a surprise that I was top of the class (and that sounds arrogantsoorry_ bit is and I ended up getting throughj the work - on old Apple Macs_ really quickly, and having a lot of time to piss around. That's probably what made me as comfortable with computers s I am - I spent a lot of time on the "press buttons and see what happens"_ type of exploration of the mac. I quite quickly found the little switch on the left hand side of the computer that reset it...

Typing we actually learned on word processors - they showed you the line you were tyipng, and then printed it out, I think. Or you printed it out afterwards, can't remember. his feels pretty comfortable actually - I often type without looking at the keyboard at work, either watching the video clip or just chatting to someone. II In fact, I look at the screen rather than the keyboard any time I'm typing, unless I make a mistake, or when I have to use some of the symbols.

How do I think I've done? Probably OK. Fingers are still on the right keys. Most of the muck-upps will either be where there's a symbol involved 0 I'm not entirely sure about the hyphen - or where I've backspaced to fix something or change my mind about what to say, and misjudged. And the html, with my luck.

Let's see.

(pressed post(

eDIT, ALSO WITH EYES SHUT. bAD HTML. nO COOKIE. aND i SHOULD CLARIFY WTHAT WHEN i SAID i BACKSPACED TO FIX THINGS, IT'S BECAUSE i CAN TELL WITHOUT LOOKING WHEN i'VE DONE SOMETHING WRONG, ALTHOUGH ONLY SOME OF THE TIME, OBVIOUSLY. aND i PROBABLY TYPE BETTER AT A DESK THAN SITTING CROSS-LEGGED ON A SOFA WITH THE KEYBOARD ON MY LAP. eNOUGH JUSTIFICATIONS NOW.

(Eyes open - bugger. It's actually quite well typed, if you ignore the capslock issue.)

Interesting meme. I am typing this comment with my eyes shut too. I learned to type on a heavy German typewriter c.1976 which was a handicap when I came to learn on qwerty later! I learned to touch-type at college, again on a typewriter, and find the laptop keyboard much much easier!

[Opened eyes to choose appropriate icon, and am very impressed with the paragraph above! I did intend to type QWERTY though, so am not sure what key I pressed instead of shift.]

Heh, I first typed - though not touch-typed - on an old portable typewriter of my mum's. A couple of people at my work learned on the big typewriters, and they still tend to batter the keyboard into submission a bit!

Very impressive, more impressive then mine, heh! I need to practise with symbols, obviously!
