Through sparks and shining dragons

Lunch out and shopping today, hurrah! I bought a funky belt for 73p, got a "Don't Make Me Roll For Initiative" bumper sticker free (not with the belt), and managed not to buy a 37" flatscreen TV or a £40 roleplaying book. Lunch out and shopping again tomorrow, so with any luck my self-control will hold.

I didn't see an atheist bus, but I did see these posters all over the place:

15012009237

WAAAAAH IT HURTSES MY EYES. APOSTROPHISE DAMMIT!

(I actually can't look at it without wincing. I realise this is my problem, not theirs, and I should be concentrating on the lovely message. Whatever it is.)

(Also, the Firefox spellchecker doesn't underline "apostrophise". It does underline "Firefox" and "spellchecker", though.)

Edit: Just read a forum post that said, "He learn't his lesson". No, STOP apostrophising now! Wah.

~laughing~

It does just the opposite over here. Even with a 'z' replacing the 's' in "apostrophise". But Firefox and spellchecker are left alone.

I take it back. Firefox got caught, too.

you should 'apostrophise' (red line) it with photoshop (red line) because it is a great photo, sing your flash made a bright spot that goes well with the message... that is why I thought you posted the pic at first.

Ooh, I hadn't actually connected that, it does fit the message! Wish I'd made a bit more effort with the photo now, to at least get it straight!

I absolutely agree, that poster is offensive to the eyes and soul.

It is! Because you start reading it wrongly, because you're expecting a different part of speech if "absent friends" isn't possessive, and then you have to double back and re-read when the next word is "wrong". (I'm thinking too much about this.)

And the news gets worse -- the Apostrophe Protection Society site has disappeared:

www.apostrophe.fsnet.co.uk

p.s. Love the icon!
