With my freeze ray I will stop the world

PSA: If you have not yet watched Act I of Dr Horrible's Sing-Along Blog by the Whedon Bros, do so immediately, for it is Made Of Win. And Lulz.

In other news, ear syringing is an amazing feeling. An hour of that would be hugely relaxing. It's like a brain massage. Although it's only fixed one of my ears - if the other is still buggered tomorrow morning I've to go back and see the doctor. I saw the nurse today, and she says everything looks fine, but she's clearly lying*. Going to see the nurse is always amusing, because you're about to leave, and suddenly, "Oh, could I just update your weight for the records? ..And your blood pressure? ..And do you still smoke? ..Still under the recommended drinking limits?" and so on. I'm very proud of my blood pressure, though, it's always perfect.

I'm stupidly impatient about the new series of Heroes, even though it doesn't start for another nine and a half weeks. Not that I'm counting. If it's crap, I'll be Very Annoyed.

Ob politics, via miss_s_b: the best article I've seen yet about the current "knife crime" moral panic, and Millennium Elephant is amusing about the whole thing. I just read in a CiF article that Scotland's knife crime is 3.5 times that of England and Wales, and most of that is in Glasgow**. All this fuss and fear about a problem that's several times smaller than the one I've been living with - and barely noticing - for 12 years. Statistics - and the ways they're spun - are beautifully flexible.

* Or, you know, I have Invisible Eardeath.
** In defence of my city, I must point out that we have far less gun crime. We like knives. (Was that a defence? Er...)

Blimey, they're trying to medicalise everything in this country, even being unwell!.

I prefer a Schrödinger's Cat approach to health. I am either well or unwell, but I'm not going to make any attempt to find out either way. At some point I and the wave-function will collapse - until then let's maintain an air of mystery ;) I think my medical records stop in 1978, apart from a five-minute school medical in about 1982 that confirmed I was alive.

T'other half (and for that matter the ex before her... and the one before her...) keep nagging me about it but I adopt the engineer's "if it ain't broke don't fix it" approach ;)

Except for Bishopbriggs which seems to be turning into Downtown, umm, Gun Central...

(Note to self, don't try to use American phraseology, you *really* don't do it well.)

Then again, Yay! for the shiny Dr Horrible's Sing-Along Blog. Act II is excellent, though I'm totally earwormed by the Bad Horse song.

I was quite impressed with an article in the Mirror, about the latest knife crime funeral, wherein they admitted in one of their statistic bubbles that violent crime is down. It was refreshing, even if the rest of it was overly emotive.
