I can has books nao?

bookshelves

I have bookshelves! Many many bookshelves! *loves* And that means I can move some of the books out of the square Ikea...thing and buy baskets for it and use them for storage for Things In General, and possibly actually empty the remaining boxes that are lurking in corners.

It also means I can buy more books.

Hmm. Does anyone know the best way to get burn marks off the front of heaters?

Ooo, very cool shelving! *want*

You might want to consider a heat resistant spray enamel, rather than wrestle with trying to clean off the burn marks.

Ooh, that sounds good, yes.

Errr, you could cover it with metal paint of the appropriate colour, perhaps? You'll get it in any DIY shop worth its salt. It might be worth checking the paint can to see if the paint can safely be applied to your type of radiator (but it should probably be fine).

I wasn't sure about paint, especially because it'll get pretty hot (hence the burn :D) and probably smell funny! But it's probably the way to go anyway.

Yeah, well usually the paint is formulated so it's safe to be on radiators etc.

Before you try anything more involved, give Magic Sponge a try. It's removed some burn discoloration off a vintage enamel stove we have here. Just be sure to do it gently at first...it can remove the finish.

This may be an option in the summer, but it won't help the heating part of the equation any...

Definitely try the Mr.Clean Magic Eraser
first but otherwise you can always paint
it. They make special paints for high heat
things like stoves and they come in many
colors including white, I'm sure.
But the magic eraser will probably work, it's
awesome. I got crayon marks off of wallpaper
with it when nothing else worked. I luvs my magic
erasers!

So much emptiness.

Re: Scary!
Ah, it's OK, I've got piles of books all over the flat to fill them up...

Mmmmmm...the joy of having shelves to fill.

I mean you're morally obliged now to go out and buy lots and lots of books.

Well, exactly. It would be ungrateful not to.

I like the shelves.

However, I have a question about the burn mark. Was it caused by something being leant against the heater or did it just appear as the heater was being used?

If the latter I'd suspect a fault in that part of it. ( Given a storage heater is just an element surrounded by bricks, for it to burn the paint in just that one area means that area is significanly hotter than the rest of the unit! )

I have no idea, it was like that when I moved in :( Probably I should get an electrician out, since the timer isn't working either... It doesn't seem to be getting worse, though, and I can't smell burning or anything.
