To Whom It May Concern

Dear Britain,

We live at a fairly northerly latitude. It snows EVERY YEAR, usually several times. Don't you think we should be used to it by now? WHY has a slight snowfall closed half the roads in the country? WHY is it all over News 24 again? "Snow In January" is NOT NEWS.

(Yes, it's snowing here too now. Though not very heavily at the moment. I bought coconut hot chocolate from Whittards to celebrate.)

OK, gonna add stuff to this, because I'm spammy today:

More Rhys in S2 Torchwood! Yay, although I hope he doesn't keep letting Gwen take the piss.

Mmmm. http://www.whittard.co.uk/ProductDetails.aspx?pid=214247&cid=hc4010&language=en-GB

If you mail me your address again (I think I had it but lost it, incompetently) I will send you some - I'd been planning sending you a late Xmas/ birthday package anyway!

Ahh, if they had a non-sugar variety, I would take you up on your very kind offer.

Ah, ick, I forgot >:( They have a Skinny Hot Chocolate, but not in coconut, and I can't find out if Skinny means sugar free anyway. Bah. I'll let you know how nice it is :D

Looks as if skinny is a direct reference to fat content: Sugar, fat reduced cocoa powder (23%), whey powder, skimmed milk powder, inulin, flavouring, contains milk.

But, hey, thank you for your generous offer to let me know how nice it is. XD!

((hugs))

Winter, occuring as it does at regular and well-foreseen intervals, always seems to take this country by surprise.

(Of course, the real reason is that council spending cuts mean there aren't enough gritters. "Ach, we only use them twice a year. Let's spend the money on building another shopping centre for Stoneybridge!")

I don't suppose I should be too surprised, since rain, wind and excessive heat also seem to cause more problems than they really should.

But I think your reasoning is correct. We seem to get a new shopping centre in Glasgow roughly every three years - there are now at least six very large ones, which all have more or less the same shops in.

It doesn't seem to take people by surprise, nobody I know back in Scotland is surprised by snow. It just seems to take the press by surprise, or at least provide cover for some shock OMG - a few roads are shut - headlines.

It does always seem to take the media and the councils and the transport companies by surprise, though, otherwise they'd have done something to prepare for it, one would have thought.

Well they couldn't be worse, could they?
I'm just amazed that the cast are admitting to the crapness of them!

I hear ya on the "surprise" weather. We do get snow and ice here every winter, yet a dusting gets "breaking news" status every time! And GSD forbid we get more than a couple of inches. The whole place gets shut down for a day or two, the stores all run out of bread, milk and toilet paper and the news crews go on 24 hour weather watch broadcasts.

When I was a kid in the Pacific Northwest (Eastern side of it), we didn't get a school snow day unless the doors were drifted shut and the temps were below 0 degrees F! People here in the DC Metro area are just pussies! LOL

Oh, and PS, I like Rhys too...Torchwood is teh shit! I've really enjoyed it. Can't wait for the new season to start.

Our last snowfall made the news, but then it was about a foot of snow, during a time a lot of folks are traveling for the holidays. We got a good 5 inches just during the 3 hours I was at a New Year's Eve party.
