First of all, happy birthday to caitirin! Hope you have a wonderful year.

I ventured outside with my camera today, and took more pictures of gates. I took this one last week; it's a crap picture, but I've been intrigued by the gate for ages. There's two of them, one on each side of the Orange Lodge, so I guess the symbols mean something. And of course, it's 42.

Today I discovered this gate:

I liked the spiralling spikes and the contrast of the barbed wire, so:

I like this one. Pretty.

I don't know if I've mentioned, but there's a cat in the close which seems to think it's a communal cat. It's very friendly and purry. (No, I have no idea what gender it is. Must check.) I first met it while I was moving in, I think - it was lurking outside, and I did that "ch-ch-ch" thing you do to cats, where you make funny noises and they look at you like you're mad, and wander off. Except this one actually came over, twined round my legs, and then turned upside down and demanded a belly scratch.

Whenever I let it into the stairwell now it decides to come home with me, which is nice, actually, though I kick it out after a couple of minutes. (Not my cat! Can't keep! Boo...) I had a go at photographing it today, but I haven't quite got the hang of moving things yet. Hurray for fuzzyfriendlycat anyway.

Oh wow...very snazzy gate indeed. No wonder you've been so intrigued by it.

Oh, and with about 95% certainty, that cat is female. Calico/torties like that are nearly always female and if it were male, it'd be sterile. Cat genetics...gotta love em! She does look very friendly! And she's obviously not malnourished. So either everyone in the building is feeding her or she's got an owner and they let her out most of the time.

LOL. I was about to make the same comment regarding likely gender. Generally the only way to get a male cat that's both orange and black is if it has an extra chromosome that shouldn't be there (or is a chimera).

This does sound vaguely familiar, now - obviously one of these things I've heard once and completely forgotten!

A-ha! I had a gut feeling she was female, but I didn't want to say that in case everyone was like "No, that's OBVIOUSLY a male..."

I think I know which apartment she lives in, and they just let her out a lot :)

That's a lovely cat :-) She (she looks like a lady cat) reminds me of Sheba, the cat we had when I was a young teenager.

She's gorgeous! She's kind of making me want a cat of my own :) She certainly seems to cope with living in a flat OK, which is what I'd have been worried about...

Fuzzyfriendlycat looks fabulous, particularly in the first picture, in which you could be forgiven for thinking she/he is both scary and fun.

Fourth photo down is my favourite - almost a heart-shaped gate bar, with barbed wire making a cool contrast to the rounded bits. Bloody hell, I'm an art critic. :D It does remind me of the Dream Theater heart a little though:

Heheh, that's what I was thinking when I took it, I just didn't like to say. And that heart is pretty!

I just got your facebook mail, I haven't been in that account for ages :) Didn't realise you were on it! Scrabble!
