Doctor Who overall reaction: Pleasantly surprised. Because I thought it was going to be awful, and it was OK verging on Quite Good.

I'll do a proper reaction post tomorrow, probably, but for now:

New Rock boots, hee! Everyone seems to have spotted them, amusingly. I couldn't stop thinking how much they must have spent on them, though.

Mr Stoker gets his blood sucked. Heh. I thought the second mention of his name was a bit anvilly, in the same scene as the bloodsucking, but other people didn't necessarily pick it up so obviously I'm just too attuned to literary allusions.

Why didn't the Doctor regenerate? Bah.

Moon SFX were a bit pants, and the insta!hysteria was annoying. They could have slowly built up the hysteria and claustrophobia and made it really tense and effective.

I thought they'd killed off the sonic screwdriver (boo) but turns out I missed a line at the end where he said he had a new one. I was probably too busy grumbling about the Rose stuff to notice.

Kiss: random. Need to watch it again. At the end he seemed to imply he'd done it for the gene transfer, but I can't figure out why, since all that did was nearly get Martha killed.

I liked the guy who actually talked to the Ji Doon, and then went around telling everyone to be calm. Until the end, when he was all "I am the ambassador for Earth!".

Oh, I liked the gag about the shop, too, it was quite subtle. And I failed to get the Zovirax one properly until [info]laerad enlightened me, because I'm terrible with adverts. But I giggled retrospectively.

Edit: I forgot to mention the most important thing that I liked! I loved that Martha, and other people, and the mysterious Mr Saxon, KNEW ABOUT ALIENS. Because of Cybermen and Slitheen and stuff. Yay for not doing the stupid "I was scuba-diving in Greece" shit they pulled at Christmas.

I'm heading out to the pub, but I had to watch Who and then come on here to see the reaction first. Me = Sad Geek.

OMG YES! That's the plothole I picked up on. WHY DIDN'T HE REGENERATE? Unless regeneration is a thing that the Doctor has to mentally decide on...oh well. It was okay for the rest of it. :)

He didn't regenerate because he wasn't actually DEAD? Just unconscious. Time Lords can go into... Yes, you don't want me turning into ubergeek, do you? Sorry.

Well, the Jidoon thought he was dead, didn't they? And their little scanners seemed to know everything :) I can't remember whether it was them now - either they or the woman said "deceased". But if it was the woman, she'd just been interrupted in teh killing, so possibly he was just unconscious.

And please tell me relevant old-school stuff, I know nothing!

Oh lots of times people have thought he's dead and he's just deeply unconcious. I'm trying to think of specific examples, but they're not coming. I;d suspect one of them will be Eight, though, because Rusty LIKES the TVM (weirdo)

If he was unconscious would he have done the spluttery thing after CPR? Ah, I'm going to try not to pick holes in it anyway :D

He's an alien? Coming back from unconsciousness could involve a quick round of the Halleliuah Chorus, for all we know! He's going to do it alienly, because he's an alien!

Oh God, I'm turning into Arnold Rimmer.

Moon SFX were a bit pants,

I thought they were good!

and the insta!hysteria was annoying.

That was odd.

I thought they'd killed off the sonic screwdriver (boo)

Boo! But yay that it's not so.

Kiss: random. Need to watch it again. At the end he seemed to imply he'd done it for the gene transfer, but I can't figure out why, since all that did was nearly get Martha killed.

It was to slow up the Judoon because they had to stop and scan her properly? Playing for time, which is nicely ruthless if her life was in danger, but I didn't think it was, it's not like she'd been snogging the Plasmavore though I'm sure there'll be fic. She even got a compensation form!

I liked the guy who actually talked to the Ji Doon, and then went around telling everyone to be calm. Until the end, when he was all "I am the ambassador for Earth!".

That was amusing.

And I failed to get the Zovirax one properly

I still haven't!

Slowing up the Judoon - could have been, I guess. I will have to watch it again, and I will approve if the Doctor's being ruthless. I liked the compensation form, too.

Zovirax is the anti-cold sore cream that has the advert with the woman wearing a bike helmet because she's embarrassed about her cold sore :)

He bought them in bulk 900 years ago.

I read an interview with John Barrowman where he suggested that Mr Tennant's nickname is David Ten-inch.

He built it? Isn't that after he's been away in the TARDIS, so he's had as much time as he likes?

but the place he got the original one from was destroyed, he destroyed it

I guess he could go back before the destruction but still..

But can't he just build his own? It's not the same one he started with surely, it looks different.

So my sonic screwdriver is out of date now? Dammit! They're just trying to screw us over on the merchandising.

See, when you say "the place where Jack's gun came from", I think of when he was all nekkid with Trinny and Susannah and managed to produce a gun...

The insta hysteroa -- you mean when they all for a moment looked like they were going to start eating each other, zombie-fashion? That was pants.

Rock boots?

Didn't notice the Stoker. Shame on me.

Did you spot the plot hole?
[info]pickwick wrote:
Mar. 31st, 2007 07:32 pm (UTC)
Yeah, the "Everybody look out the window...and then on the count of three, everybody scream and go absolutely insane." Gah.

New Rock boots. Famous goth/ skatery brand, very clumpy and metallic, I guess!

Plot hole: Regeneration? Or was there another big one I missed?
[info]momentsmusicaux wrote:
Mar. 31st, 2007 07:35 pm (UTC)
Yeah... I thought for a bit it was some sort of mind control / zombification lark.

Plot hole: see http://redatt.livejournal.com/363899.html

Regeneration: he was obviously only unconscious. Pity they didn't just say he has a whole second supply of blood due to the two hearts!
[info]pickwick wrote:

I can see I need to read up about the doctor's physiology :D

(Plot hole: have responded in [info]redatt's journal.)

I'm sure I've seen it referred to as 'dual circulatory system' or somthing. It would be bending things a bit to say he's got two separate blood systems, but since it's never been said he hasn't...

Yer, I'd forgotten about that by the end, but it did bother me at the beginning. Although, honestly, space is mind blowing vast blackness and Earth is a little speck in the distance ... So, maybe ...
[info]pickwick wrote:

Yeah, I suppose it's likely people would freak out, but it just seemed like somebody flicked a switch! Bad direction, I suppose.
[info]redatt wrote:

I know, it was a bit blah, I'd've expected at least some people to do the exact opposit and become immobile. Back away from the window or something.
[info]pickwick wrote:
Mar. 31st, 2007 07:46 pm (UTC)
Yep. And we did see a few people dealing with it OK later, like Martha's buddy, but just...not in that scene.

Came here from...somewhere.

Kiss: random. Need to watch it again. At the end he seemed to imply he'd done it for the gene transfer, but I can't figure out why, since all that did was nearly get Martha killed.

Was for a distraction. They stopped and scanned her longer to give the Doctor a chance to have what's-her-face suck his blood.

Oh yeah! I really want to know what *kind* of compensation you get. Like, it's not going to be in Earth currency. And where's she meant to send the form?

Hello :) Yeah, I think I like that. Excellent. Certainly compared to the "I will sacrifice the world to save Rose" crap he was on the verge of pulling last season.

Yeah, the Doctor was just a tad immature last season...and yeah, makes perfect sense. The whole line about how it would save everyone and all. :)
